We have a trip planned Jan 16-21st and I was amazed at how quickly the rooms were gone...there are 3 big reasons for this...

1. its MLK wknd, alot of kids have 3 or 4 days off school..perfect time for a trip
2. Jan 18-20 is national college cheer competition..so the values will be mobbed with cheerleaders..Indiana Jones may be shut down at MGM that weekend as they often hold competition there
3. to really make my trip complete I found out the other day that my boss will be there the same EXACT dates as my family. And that is because there is a national soccer championship at WW of Sports complex...

So hopefully this answers a few puzzled peoples questions as to why the lack of rooms..or should I say NO ROOMS at WDW that week/weekend

Thanks for the info..I didn't know that so many things were going on then! I knew about some of them, but my goodness, that's a lot! We are arriving on the 20th of Jan and according to expedia a large majority of rooms become available on the 21st, and almsot every hotel is available on the 22nd. So we will only have to deal with people on the 21st which really won't be too bad because most are checking out that morning :cool1:

No Pop Warner, no cheerleaders, no marathon runners, no soccer players, no Christmas mobs, no relentless summer heat....ahh just us and WDW in the quiet of January, our favorite time to visit..:cloud9:

Even with all that going on I still dont think the parks will be that crowded. Maybe MLK weekend will be a little bit more crowded but I dont think it will be unbearable....ENJOY!

. . . to really make my trip complete I found out the other day that my boss will be there the same EXACT dates as my family . . .

1) Oops.
2) So much for the cough-cough-gasp-choke-sneeze "I have a cold" excuse.
3) And to think it would have taken 1-week to cure that upcoming cold.

We'll be there Jan 19-23, staying at Pop. Thanks for the heads up on the two events. We'll be sure to hit the food court at opening. I think that will be the area that affects us the most.

Too bad we're only staying 5 days, I bet my daughter would love to see some of the cheer competition. She's a cheerleader herself. We'll have t catch it on ESPN sometime. We won't have a minute to spare while we're there!!!!!!!!!

Under the new WDW resort pricing policy, we're paying a premium price to stay at the YC for MLK weekend.

But it appears that three of our favorite theme park attractions will be closed for refurbishment in January:
  • Spaceship Earth
  • The American Adventure
  • Splash Mountain
We're disappointed because it has been four years since we've been to WDW and with our daughter going off to college next year, this was supposed to be our "Last Hurrah" WDW trip. (She was six the first time we took her!)

Oh well. I guess by spending less time at the parks because of closed attractions, we'll have more time enjoy the amenities of our deluxe resort! ;)

Thanks for the info! We'll be there from 1/16-1/20 at the POLY. I hope the MK isn't too crowded!

I'll be there from the 10th through the 24th, so I'll have marathon weekend and MLK weekend during my trip. I plan to hit the parks hard during the weekdays and then do my relaxing resort days on the weekends. I am glad I made my reservation early though. It's getting harder and harder to work around all the events going on.
