No rooms available at WL or AKL first week of December

Hi everyone,

We are currently booked at CB for the first week of December and have been trying to switch to WL for several weeks with no luck. I checked today and AKL isn't available either during that week. Wow!! I know that's Pop Warner week, but it there something else going on that week that a lot of the resorts (especially the deluxes) aren't showing availability? Do you think we should keep trying or just be content with the CB? We all like CB, just thought it would be fun to stay WL or AKL again! Thanks!! (BTW - I've only checked online - do you think calling disney travel would be worth it?)

We stayed at AKL Dec. 2005 and the resort was sold out for the first week of December. Seems they housed most of the camera crew and stars for the Christmas parade taping. We saw Vanessa Williams and her family one day and there were tons of ABC workers everywhere. We thought it was too crazy busy for us, so we haven't gone back the first week of December again.

The WL is very, very popular between Thanksgiving and New Year's. I'm not surprised that it is full - lots of people book their Holiday Season stays at the WL up to a year or more in advance.

There are less rooms available this year at the AKL than there were last year. As you probably know, a good portion of the rooms at the AKL are being converted to DVC units.

IMHO, it doesn't hurt to keep checking if you really want to stay at the WL or AKL. I'd call WDWTC too - sometimes they have rooms that don't show up online and vice versa.

Wow - I hadn't realized how popular that week has become!! It's been several years since we've been during the first week of December. I checked again today and there aren't any rooms at the contemporary, poly, akl, or wl (at least on the website) - it seemed even the values and mod were getting limited!

We stayed at WL last year during the first week of December and it was pretty busy. Sat & Sun were packed, but as the week progressed the crowds got smaller - By Tuesday and Wednesday the crowds were much more managable.

They tape the Xmas parade that week and it is also Pop Warner week and all of the Value's and POR are used for the thousands who come for that...

It's also very crowded on the EMH's on Sat nights in Dec. I think alot of locals come to see the decorations - plus you have MVMCP also...

I wanted to get in for that week and do DCL also, but it's not working out.

1) WL is popular year-around.
2) It averages ABOVE 93% full.
3) Early December has become popular due to lower (not low) crowds.
4) Thus WL, frequently fills completely.

We were lucky enough to snatch a room at AKL with the Visa code. But only for our first four nights. We have to switch to CSR on our 5th day, which kinda bums me out. CM told us we called at the right time because it was the only room left at AKL with the code. So we are booked AKL Dec 1-5, and CSR from 5-9.

We have been trying to upgrade from CSR to a deluxe for over a month now with no availability. I keep checking everyday though. What could it hurt right?

just curious...what dates and for how many are you trying to book? are you trying to use AP rate? just wondering because I just tried the 2-8 and rooms came up for AKL...now this was for 2 adults and 1 child so it may not work for you but if I were you I'd try online again or give them a call... I know what one has the other may have more or different rooms... when we booked an extra date for our trip last week I was online and it showed me different availability than she had on the phone at CRO....keep trying

I thought the parade taping was Nov 30-Dec 2? Wouldn't that mean the crew and celebs should be gone the first week on December?

We arrive on Nov 30 and leave on Dec 8 - so I'm sure that's part of the problem - being there the weekend the begin filming the Christmas parade! There are three adults and 1 child - we may need to consider a split stay - I hadn't thought about that. Thanks!!

Remember Pop Warner....

It runs the whole week and even though alot of the teams take over the AS resorts and also POR... alot of the families come and stay at the other resorts... that's probably the clog in the system... You may be able to get something closer - if people start to cancel, etc.... they may also have rooms blocked out for pop warner that may open up when the tournament gets more set....
