most of the people using the DVC rental/trade board are honest - sorry you found one that wasn't....

I am very sorry to hear this.

I rented once before buying and never could get hold of the perosn I was renting from after I sent payment. They were super quick to respond proir to the payemnt, then it was liek they dropped off the planet. I also never got a confirmation as promised. I was a nervous wreck, especially when i discovered soemoen else was going through the smae thing with the smae owner. After months of calling and emailing they finally respnded back after numerous messages had been left. They faxed me a copy of the confirmation, but never mailed it to me as promised. I was calling MS every week to make sure the ressie was still there. It taght me sevral lessons if I was ever to rent from anyoen again in the future or even rent out my own points to others. (I will only pay a deposit until I receive a confirmation, then I'll pay the balance. I also will never go without a contract.)
Unfortunately in your case, this wouldn't ahve helped much.
Luckily, I arrived at BCV and everything wad fine, but I thought I might show up andf be in a similar situation as yours. Reading your post I felt so upset for you! I think the vast majority of owners renting are legit, but there are soem that aren't the best to do business with. I guess it is like that in everything. I also think many are quick to assume becasue it is Disney related all will be perfect. If I ever do anything else on the rent boards it will be with the greatest of caution.

Please presue this and let us know what you coem up with. Best of luck and keep us posted!

i would like to thank each of you for your kind thoughts and great ideas...I would never think to tell people not to use the site... I just hit a bad one ...It would appear from your responses that there are far more pluses than TCs...I agree with the person who said that disney should have a double name system...If they had i would have been called... i could have made arrangements to pay for the room...or I could have had more of a choice of alternate lodging...but all in the past..we enjoyed our stay ... epcot food and wine helped ... now armed with some great ideas from you ... I will do my best to track him down ... If I do ...you will be the first to know.... Keep renting... When I get up the courage to do this again I will seek you advice.. . Here's to lives made happier because of the mouse...thanks

I agree 100%. This must stop can't the board list the names of the folks who have ripped off others. I hate to see this happen again.
I believe that in the end. He will get his due. I have said this before from personal experience (nothing to do with this). It took awhile but. Oh boy did the worse happen to them.. If you know what I mean. I can't stand a thief.....

Yes, it will make you feel better, but I used this method a couple years ago, and I can tell you it will probably not get you any refund. Those kind of people have a way of disappearing too well!

I am truely, truely sorry this happened to the OP and hate when bad things happen to nice people.

But everyone needs to realize that any offer that seems too good to be true needs to be avoided. Also it's renters risk. This forum as stated does not get involved and that is certainly understandable on their part.

Also it is very unreasonable to think Disney should have any part in DVC members renting points. While they don't stop it, they don't promote it or probably even like it. They just condone it. For them to become involved in any way would set them up to be held responsible for any problems involving the transaction. They are not going to do that and should not be expected to.

I, too understand the board not wnating to get invloved with any renting transactions, but it is a shame for soemoen to know that there is a very untruthful renter posting and then not to be able to stop other peopel from renting from them and getting burned as well. Seems very unDisney like of any of us not to want to ehlp others from making similar mistakes! I am very glad the OP posted thsi thread.
What was the outcome of the suggestion for a references board? It is even possible? To do something similar to ebay with comments? I think it woudl be a great help in easing the minds of others if they know other renters have had smooth transactions.

As far as the DIS board rent/trade goes, I think if they are going to provide the board, they should provide the referral/references section also.

Rest assured this person will "pay" for this somehow. I'm a firm believer that people that hurt or abuse others pay for it before they leave this world. My grandma and grandpa used to tell me that "what goes around comes around" and I firmly believe it.

Of course, it would be great if you could get your money back. The former owner of my husband's company cheated us out of more than $30,000 of company stock we owned (us and a lot of other people). It's taken years of fighting (class action law suit) but we got word this last week that we got our money back (with interest)!

I'm sorry this happened, but I did a transaction with Thomas Chambers in September for reservations in October. I got the last of the "reservation" points. I stayed three nights starting Oct. 12. That is not quite two months ago, so he hadn't canceled his membership by then.

The only problem I ran into was he had made a reservation with the wrong last name (Smith instead of Swift), but I got that fixed up after a few minutes.

I don't think this was purely a scheme to defraud or I would be out of my money also. I does sound like he messed up big time here though.

Update: I see from another thread he sold his membership after I stayed there. I guess I got "lucky"...
