I guess no more spur of the moment (which is still months in advance) trips. We tried today to book ANY DVC studio or one bedroom Thursday, Nov. 10-Tuesday, Nov. 15 (which spans Veterans Day to accommodate my sister the teacher to join for part of the trip) and were shut out of all resorts Nov. 10 and 11.

Going to call again tomorrow just in case it was a fluke. Fingers crossed for some vacation magic.

I noticed the other day when I checked there were no studios available our week, 10/21-10/28. We already have then reserved but I was going to add a day at the beginning maybe...no luck.

I'd wait list a studio and a 1 bed at SSR and Keep checking daily. Maybe make a backup reservation some where in case. I needed a night during Easter week and it didn't take too long to get a studio at SSR.Hopefully it will work out for you.

Late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan is DVC's high demand season when many things disappear before 7 months out and many others don't last long after that 7 month booking period. During that season, there are certain periods that are worse than the others that i call extremely high demand times. That weekend you want, when it is the end of Food & Wine and has Veterans Day in it, is one of those extremely high demand times, when even SSR has a risk of filling a night or two before 7 months out. And as to the mentioon of Easter week above, understand that Easter week is like the slowest of off-seasons for DVC demand in comparison to the weekend you want. Nevertheless, there is always some chance something may open but to maximize any chances you may have you should get ona wait list such as for SSR whuile also checking regularly.

The Food & Wine Festival is extremely popular and it runs through Nov 14 this year. The long weekends during the festival (Columbus Day and Veterans Day) book up especially quickly. You could set up a wait list but you should also stalk the online booking tool checking for cancellations. Something might open up just before 30 days out but it will take some luck to be checking online at the right time.

If you can do so without borrowing, book the studio nights available then wait list the other 2 as separate wait lists if you don't have other wait lists on the books.

I admittedly was working with the old mindset that "you can always get Saratoga." Thank you all for the great suggestions re: waitlisting. Forgot that was an option. Will give it a go.

Well, my hopes of booking a studio at VGF for a week in February was dashed by not having one night available...so I booked the week in a lake view Polynesian studio. It is odd what fills up quickly and what doesn't. Now, I'd be perfectly happy staying at my home resort, OKW, I love it. But I've been staying there for 25 years, and I just want to try something different.

Wait list it expiring 7 days out and replacing the current one.

I would, but with a June use year, if it comes through on short notice, I'd be unable to bank any unused "extra" points. So I'll just have to "rough it" at the Poly. :-)

Aren't the points the same for the same view type? Just wait list the same view type (or higher if you have standard at Poly). Or do the wait list and cancel before your banking deadline if it doesn't come through if needed.

Points are the same for view type, but at GF I'd do a less expensive view. But the Polynesian is fine, really. The person I'm taking along on this trip wanted the Poly. I'll do GF another time. I was just surpirsed to see a day inthe middle gone that far out.

In 2013, I planned a trip around that time about 2 months out. I pulled it together by waitlisting and also stalking the reservation website. I waitlisted 5 nights, BWV studio pool/garden. Nights 3,4,5 became available pretty quick. I booked it and changed the waitlist. Then night 2 became available, booked it and changed the waitlist. Night 1 became available by the waitlist at 28 days, Member Services automatically combined the 3 reservations. I had a backup cash reservation through CRO, AP rate.

It's good to have choices and it sounds like either would be a new experience for you. Poly standard is likely to be easier than GF standard. If you would prefer GF or the cheaper in general, you could always wait list for either or both and cancel the wait list at the time of the banking window.

We have a 2 br booked at Kidani for the Wine and Dine race weekend Nov 4-9. I needed to add the 3rd to ensure I could get the packets picked up and settled in. I've been stalking for awhile and the only opening was a 1 br at Saratoga. Last week a 1 br opened at Bay Lake so I snagged it. This morning, a studio opened at the Poly. The Bay Lake ressie was cancelled and I'm now at the Poly. It saved 15 points plus it's only me anyway for a night.

Point is, keep checking. Inventory changes by the minute.
