No return at costco

I'm actually surprised that the poster had a problem at Costco.

I've bought with my brother before and had to return one of the items. I told them the situation and they had no problem making the return. That was a few years ago, so maybe the policy has changed.

I have since become a member and have never been asked for my membership card when returning. I have always had a receipt and the number is printed on the receipt.

OT-

I have a two year old and we have a wii...Do you think she would be able to do Dora at three? What is involved in the game. She loves the show Dora and if the game is super easy it might be something her and DH could do together.

We had the Dora Snow Princess game and the cool thing is there's a little guy that pops up on the screen to show the kids what motions to do with the wiimote, no reading required. I think the Diego game was the same. It was really nice when DD wasn't reading. The princess game doesn't really require reading either, the fairy creature tells the kids what movement to use, it's not quite as basic as the Dora games but DD loved it when she was younger.

I think the OP is having a little bit of buyers remorse. She thinks she could have got a better deal elsewhere, either with a gift card or extras. this with the added fact that her 5yo had trouble with the game. I would be surprised to find that costco's wii pack did not have something that the others did not offer. They are usually the best place to buy most items. imo. I also agree that Costco's return policy is top notch. I hope everything works out for you. If I stopped trying after every game I could not play the first time I would never have played anything. I suggest she keeps trying. I wouldn't be surprised if the 5yo is better than the adults within a week or two.

Costco services its members. They are a membership club and have the most generous return policy of any store that I know of. They are the first place I look whenever I need anything especially electronics.

Actually walmart has a better deal with $50 gift card and target also has a special for free nunchunk last week when my relative bought the wii for us as a gift. So it was not buyer remorese. If I was buying it myself, I would have gone to the retail stores and get a better deal. however, I don't think I should pick and choose when someone else is paying for it. If I know the return policy in advance, I would have speak up and ask my relative to buy it elsewhere.
It is not as easy to get my relative to go to the store together as I live in the city and he lives in the suburb. It actually takes me close to 25 minutes one way to go to costco. As my family is small, we don't buy things in bulks and see no benefit in joining costco.
I have once received a sweater as a gift from Sam's club. It was too small; I thought I would get a merchandise credit but instead I got cash back, no question asked. Sam's club is a club similar to costco too. So I have to say I was very surprised at costco's return policy, even on gifts. I checked costco's web site and it was silence on the issue of return on gift. I did call costco's customer service, even the rep was surprised at my inability to return the item espeially during the holiday season. The supervisor at customer service offered to email the warehouse's manager regard this issue. I have talked with my relative who is agreeable to return the item for me if all else failed. I just hate to inconvenient him, esp given his generocity already.
My daughter tried the mario kart, kept crashing the car and lost interest quickly. She will be five on 2/10; I am wondering whether the vtech motion, which I was told similar to wii but for kid, is better for her.

Well, then, frankly, since this is what the relative bought for you/your daughter, appreciate it and find a way to get the other items - the nunchuck, a gift card - yourself.

I am going to have to agree with the other posters here on the Wii is in no way too difficult for a 5 yr old, she had to have been playing a game that was too difficult.

I disagree with Costco policy on returns though.

I will agree with the others. We have had the Wii for 2 years (youngest was 4 when we got it) and she plays games like Playground, mariokart, and several other games. I like the system best because they are moving with it.

I have to second...or third...or eleventh... your daughter will love Wii if she spends some, and I mean very little, learning it. My yougest was 5 when we got Wii and before the end of the week vacation she was beating us at bowling. It is so great, you should keep it and get enjoy the game it comes with. We went a year before we bought any new games and Wii Sports is still their favorite!

Yup, as the pp stated, you need to be a costco member in order to make a purchase, so you would need to be a costco member in order to make a return. Unlike, target or toys r us, Costco doesn't do gift receipts. We've had a costco membership since our college days so have never encountered this problem. The return policy probably doesn't specify you need to be a member in order to make a return, because it assumes you already are if you are shopping at costco. You would have already had to have membership just to walk through the doors.

I'm not sure this is correct. I bought BIL a gift this year from Costco, I had the same question because he is not a member. I asked at the customer service/return desk on my way out and they said they would return it as long as he had the original receipt.

What I meant was that costco does not offer gift receipts (where prices are encoded so gift recipient is not aware of actual value unless returned or exchanged). As I said earlier, I've had a costco membership most of my adult life and where I live, just about everyone has a costco membership. So I've never personally encountered returning something from costco as a non-member. Costco has a generous return policy, I'm just not sure how generous they are to non-members.

Regarding Mario Kart for a 5 year old. Keep in mind that Mario Kart has several levels (tracks) to play. There are some that are very difficult (Rainbow Road) and I have just kept crashing over and over and I'm 38! There are much simpler tracks as well. My personal favorite, because it is easier and gives me a chance against the kids, ;) is Luigi's Circuit. My youngest DS has been playing Mario Kart with ease since he was 3.5. I am guessing your DD's friend put on a hard level track because they play a lot and have practiced and being your DD's 1st time she had difficulty. I agree with the others that given the proper levels and games your DD will be a Wii pro in a matter of days. IMO much over the age of 5 all the V-tech, Leap Frog, Leapster type games get left behind. I wouldn't waste your money on that instead give the Wii a chance.

I'm not a costco member, don't even know about one in my area but I just wantd to tell you in case you keep the Wii that Toy Story Mania is very easy for a small child to play, my dd is seriously handicapped and only has use of one good hand but can play just about every game on it and really enjoys it, I beleive she would get a big kick out of it I know my dd does. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Good ending to my saga.

I got a call from the general manager of the costco warehouse where we got the wii from today. I explain my situation to her. She was very surprised at the fact I have problem returning the wii given during the christmas season and I have the original receipt. she said just thing morning, a non-member was able to return a gifted item without any problem. she apologied for my trouble and planned to tell her staff to accept returns like mine.

Now, after getting so many glowing recommendations from you, I probably will end up keeping the wii and give it a try. Now, are there any good sales on wii games good for little girl? Thanks again.

Before you buy any, check your library and see if they have them. I'm in our library about once a week either picking up or dropping of DVD movies (I haven't paid to rent a movie in years;)) and just this week saw another customer checking out Wii Carnival. Of course, I had to ask the librarian to point me in that direction.

Sure enough they have video games (Wii, Nintendo, DS, XBox, Playstation...) games in the children's section as well as in the adult section. We can also look online and place a hold on any title that it listed (there were pages and pages:yay:). We have a limit of 2 per card and you can only keep them 1 week. With 5 library card holders in our house, that should be more than enough!

By the way, I'm not a fan of Costco. When they opened here a few years ago right down the street from a long established Sam's Club, I went to get a card. They refused to give me a business card even after I showed them my taxes because I'm self-employed and use my SS# instead of a tax ID#. The hours for non-business members are horrible so I stick with Sam's

So glad it worked out for you. :goodvibes As far as games go, Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey and Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Snow Princess should both be under $20 at Walmart, Target, Amazon etc. since they have been available for awhile. If you have a GameStop, you might want to check out their used games. I believe they have a 7 day exchange policy on used games where if you don't like the game for any reason you can swap it out for another game.

Costco has a ridiculously generous exchange policy. The trade-off is only the purchaser can make a return.

Sounds fair to me.

Yup! Costco has the best return policy I have ever heard of... like a PP, I have a similiar story. My boss purchased a microwave from Costco a few years ago and had a problem with it (I think it just died), he was at Costco looking at new microwaves when an employee there told him he could return the old one for a complete refund! They said even though it was no longer under warranty from the manufacturer Costco stands behind their products and it should have lasted longer than a few year! He returned the microwave (no box, no receipt) got a full refund, walked right back to the microwaves in the store and bought another one :thumbsup2
