I have expressed interest in two events. It has been over a week and neither has gotten back to me. Granted we have had snow, but I would think that someone would be back online.:confused3

ours got back to us very quickly. Did you get an email saying "thanks for your interest in such and such activity"? if so, that email should have some contact info for you to follow up with. If you didn't get that email, then there might have been some error when you signed up and the request didn't go through.

No, I filled out the info on both and received nothing from either. I did not get "thanks for your interest..." I guess I will redo everything again and see if I get that email.

Thank you!

I've been on both ends...I volunteered my family for a project on Jan 1 and never heard back the org so I know what that feels like.....

On the flip side, I work for a non-profit, and we posted a project. I was SLAMMED with volunteers. It was completely overwhelming and time consuming to try to get back to everyone.....I felt bad because I know I missed getting back to some...It was great to have so many volunteers, but easy to miss getting back to some....

Try again or pick another opportunity. Good luck!

A few of my emails, both from Disney and from contact people for organizations, have wound up in my spam folder for no apparent reason. Make sure you check it for emails.

I expressed interest in 6 or 7 opportunities before one finally responded. I got nothing at all up until then. Just keep trying. We are now confirmed for volunteering on April 3.

I've been trying and trying, and NO ONE has gotten back to me either. I know how you feel!

We also had contacted a group that didn't contact us back either. We were really disappointed because it was a swim meet that our daughter was already swimming in. It would have been nice to volunteer instead of sit in the stands!

Just keep trying. I think it was our 4th or 5th try before we actually got signed up (and we still haven't completed the project, so I'm not counting my chickens) ... a couple did not respond, one responded with a mass email that they were overwhelmed with responses and would not have time to get back to everyone. You just have to kiss a lot of frogs, I guess ...

I had that happen a few times as well and wasted about 2 weeks waiting for a response. Then I decided to use Safari instead of Explorer and then I get the email that tells you about the volunteer opportunity, the contact name, phone number and email. Maybe it's an internet explorer / Antivirus / Firewall problem?

We signed up on the give a day site..it was one that you didn't need to express interest...well according to disney/handson we are scheduled to volunteer. I have tried to contact the coordinator 5 times to confirm which date we are supposed to help...well she has never gotten back to me. I've emailed and told her my husband needs to request off of work..could she PLEASE confirm our date...and still NOTHING...this has been since early January. I expressed interest in a new event today, if they get back to me quickly I'm cancelling our orginal request.

You may want to call the coordinator. I have been signed up for 5 weeks to donate time to a charity and I finally had to call after no replies to emails. She said they backed out of the program. Would have been nice to know a few weeks ago. But really, call if you don't get a response.

I wound up canceling it yesterday and found a new oppurtunity for my whole family!!

We are all going to help at an MS walk in April! We can't wait!

I think they are so overwhelmed (especially those that accept kids) that they just can't reply. While I had a good experience, my coordinator did say that they were pulling some of the opportunities because they had too many responses.

Good luck to all -

I started trying in early January, and didn't get a call back from an agency willing to take us until the middle of February. As was stated above, the agencies are getting overwhelmed with WAY too many volunteers (I bet they wish they had that problem more often!) and I think many just stop responding to anyone once their spots are full. Plus, the listings seem to stay posted even though they can't take any more people, compounding the problem.
It also doesn't help that in our area, there are just a handful of opportunities within a 50-60 mile radius, which covers millions in population.
Hopefully more and more agencies will start joining the Hands On Network once they realize how many people are willing to serve!

I just received an interesting email from one of the great opportunities I expressed interest in back in January and never received a response:

"I just found your inquiry in my junk folder. I apologize. Are you still interested in volunteering."

So, I agree, if the opportunity is a good fit for you and your family, be somewhat persistent and perhaps give them a call.

I've been trying and trying, and NO ONE has gotten back to me either. I know how you feel!

I seem to be in the same boat! I've lost count on how many times I have expressed interest for myself and family. I have not received a single response. I have become so frustrated that I have stopped looking for new opportunities. :sad1:

My husband has had a slightly different problem....people keep getting back to him but no one has any openings. I.E. they all claim to be overbooked and can't take on anymore volunteers.

The kids and I are volunteering at the local area food bank but DH can't volunteer there because they don't have hours that don't conflict with either his work or school. He tried to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity but they claim to be overbooked for the next 60 days. I don't think I have ever heard of charities turning away volunteers because they have to many!
