Well, I can honestly say I am a fool for knowing the date when the booking would open up and not jumping on it sooner.

We were in WDW when the dates came out and I asked at the GF at the cruise line desk about making reservations and the person behind the desk told me to call the phone number on the back of the brochure.

Long story short - I did not call and I just looked on the website and it would cost us (a family of four - 2 adults a 5 year old and a 2 year old at the time of the sailing) $9,840.00!!!:(

I cannot believe how much this would cost so we have decided there is NO WAY we could afford this cruise!!

Hooray to all of you for booking and waiting on hold when you did.

Lisa--We were on the Magic when it was announced but no way was I rebooking then due to my feelings about the cruise while on board (it's getting better now that I'm home in reality) but I decided yesterday to see how much it would cost us if we decided to do one of the Mex cruises on DCL

For the 5 of us in a family suite (2 adults and 3 kids 11, 10, 6) it was 9700.00 and if we wanted to do one of the repo cruises it was $13,000.00

SO we decided to book a Carnival or RCCL cruise for the same time frame and go to the Mex Riviera. We could cruise back to back 7 day cruises with all 5 of us and still come out almost $500.00 ahead for what it would cost for us to do the 7 day DCL Mexican cruise.

Lisa,
I just looked at www.allseastravel.com and for the eastern return cruise 4 of you in catagory 9 (that is what we always pick...but we get two rooms as we take 5 kids) is $8,244...taxes and all. Maybe your quote was with trip insurance and air...not sure.

I am still thinking about it...my husband says no. Our gruop (2 parents, 2 grandparents and 5 kids) was over $15,000. And then the air to CA .....

Oh well, we are going in Jan on a Western.......

Hydster,

A mex cruise on RCCL or Carnival? Do tell... That sounds like some thing we were interested in as well.

Reunion in Mexico.:bounce:

Bowtie...I know it sounds like a blast doesn't it???? We are considering either line BUT WITHOUT the kids! No way am I going through that crap again for a L~O~N~G time!!!!!

A reunion cruise would be a blast!!!! We can cruise the 2 of us on Carnival for just over 2000.00 for the week including port fees and taxes. Your family of 4 could cruise in a balcony cabin including port charges and taxes for $3885.00 total not including air fare. Usually Southwest flies into LAX pretty cheap as well.

It is something we are seriously considering that is for sure but our kids will NOT be invited this time as we want to have FUN!!:teeth:

Hydster,

OK, now you have me worried. We have two kids - ds 13 & dd 9 with us on our June cruise. I thought the programs etc. would make for a relaxing time for us.

I see you have two almost our childrens' ages then a 5 year old.

Was it too difficult to cruise with kids on DCL?

Thanks, I appreciate your input, would like to be prepared, LOL!

Well, to be honest with your Carnival's childrens program (Camp Carnival) is rated even higher than Disney's program if you can believe it!

Your kids would have a blast. If you are truly not going to take them then I would suggest you go on Royal Caribbean.

We did the Mexico cruise with Carnival about 4 years ago. I would not sail with Carnival again! My DD was 3 at the time and had fun! Kids programs seem to be great! Food was terrible!!!! Entertainment was okay! I feel you get what you pay for.

We have sailed DCL (twice with 3rd next summer), NCL, Carnival, and Celebrity. The only line I would not consider again was Carnival! In my opinion!

We have been cruising with our DD since before she was born. I was 5 months pregnant when we took our first cruise. She has been on 4 cruises with her 5th next summer! I think cruising with kids is wonderful! I have never regretted taking her!

The cruise is a lot of fun for kids, but is only realxing if they want to saty in the kids club. Our DS stayed there during most dinners(becuse he filled up on everything else before dinner) and we were still with everyone elses kids. He then wanted to be with us at the beaches, and by the pool on the ship so we had to be with him. The shows were for kids so we took him to those and by the time they offer adult only activities it is after 10:00 and we had to put DS to sleep! The only real alone time we had was Palo.

Our girls (ages 10 and 7) did not even step foot into the clubs on our March cruise but we still had the best vacation ever. We take family vacation to spend time together so I would have been disappointed if they had wanted to be in the lab the whole time. We still managed to relax plenty. They spent a lot of time in the pools so we were able to relax then. I wouldn't even consider taking a cruise without them - it's our favorite type of vacation together.
