I just got back from Disney on a short stay. One of the workers at The Poly told ( Kona Kafe ), told me that there is no real brewed coffee at any of the Disney Restaurants (with the exception of V&A's, and the Kona Kafe ). They told me ALL of the restaurants have switched to a proprietary instant blend for economic reasons. I thought the coffee wasn't as good as usual, but I find this hard to believe. Can you imagine, Disney using instant coffee ?????? Does anyone have solid knowledge of this ? Can anyone support this person's claims ? Does anyone else care ?
Thanks.......
For all the fellow coffee lovers...
John

I care - A LOT!!! Unfortunately, I don't know the answers to any of your other questions. Geez. they re-open EE and slam the door on real coffee at the same time...maybe it's an evil plot to keep us sleepy!

I always travel with a large zip-lock baggie filled with my favorite ground-up beans. I'm usually at a resort that has a coffee maker, and take my own if we're driving down. There is NOTHING like a freshly-brewed cup (or 2) of coffee early in the AM, sitting on the balcony of a Disney resort, watching the sun come up and the birds swooping down. I've seen hot air balloons, thunderstorms, skies turn orange/pink then blue. Yes---you can do all this, AND not be too tired for the evening festivities, as long as you have your coffee by your side!:o :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

In March we were at Cindy's enjoying breakfast. A door to a pantry area that led to the kitchen was slighlty ajar and I watched someone make instant coffee in a serving pot and bring it out to serve. She served me first! I watched as she opened the lid over my cup and there was that "foam" you sometimes get with freeze dried coffee. I was astounded. I gave a little chuckle too. I think sometimes we hold Disney to such a high standard that when we get a bit of a surprise ( instant coffee with a rather pricey and very crowded preplated breakfast), we just have to laugh or else we would be kind of peeved. Oh well. I had a great time anyway and when we are visiting Disney we try very, very hard not to think at all about what we are spending on things like instant coffee. Thinking about the reality of it all Kind of makes the trip feel like Tasters Choice vs. Starbucks perked. I do not choose to go there.

There are a few places where you can find real coffee at WDW. Two were already mentioned. Also, there's the Kenya coffee at Boma, and a cart near the American Adventure in Epcot. There may be more, but it's been quite awhile that they've been serving the instant stuff. Way back when Bonfamille was still open, our server told us that they use a concentrated liquid that comes in a bag. They just add hot water. She said all the resort restaurants use it.

oh my goodness! this is a big deal to me... does anyone know if spoodles is serving instant? oh my goodness!!! I was planning my vacation just the other day and starting dreaming about disney's wonderful coffee... you know... just one of those "small" details us disney goers look forward too. :(

Does anyone know if there is a coffeepot in the WL rooms? It would be worth bringing my own coffee. I might even have to bring my press!

Hi! We didn't have a pot at the WL, but you can request one. I took a small one of my own for morning coffee. I thought the "instant stuff" they served at RF was good, however. ;) I did add lots and lots of those tiny creamers, though.

Interesting--.
In May I had coffee after dinner at a # of restaurants, and it didn't taste like instant.
But I don't know for sure.
I do know that "premade" real cofeee can sit around in a pot or urn for quite awhile, which effectively kills the real taste. Maybe that's why they are doing this (if they are).

John,

I know, for a fact, that Yachtsman steakhouse still brews both Regular and Decaf coffee. When they were merged with The Galley, they did have the instant machine, but it was only used for breakfast & lunch.

Now pass the cream and sugar!:p

I guess I'll have to have my coffee in my room before heading out. Oh well.

Ok, I know it sounds ridiculus. But being from Seattle we love our coffee and Lots of it! We packed a full sized coffee maker that we picked up cheap and took it with us to WDW and our 7 day Disney cruise. We took a LB of Seattles Best coffee and boy after tasting the coffee at WDW and on the Magic I'am glad we did!

Has anyone had the coffee at the stand on the BW? How was that?

I don't care how it is made as long as it tastes good. Now Breakfastasaurus has never had a good cup of coffee YUK!! At 7:30 am though who cares!!:o

all the coffee tastes the same
i ate at 15 different rest in the past 6 months
all the same except kona kafe at the poly

here's a list
Palio
Spoodles
Yachtman's
Flying Fish
Boma
Narcoosees
Citricos
California Grill
Bid River Grill

I'm not saying the coffee is bad, it just tastes
slightly watered down for my liking

O.K. now you are scaring me LOL! Just there labor day and the only time I had coffee was from the concierge lounge at the BWI YUM! and 3 character meals YUK! YUK! YUK!

I drink Starbucks from freshly ground beans at home so I should be used to yucky coffee!!;)

This is not good news for me! I need real java in the morning.

Does anyone know if I can get a coffee maker in my room at Port Orleans Riverside? I'll bring my own from home if that's the case.

John -

So happy to see your post! I, too was shocked to see the instant foamy thing at Chef Mickey's, where the CM explained that the people Disney surveyed said they couldn't tell the difference!

Judging from the early responses here - they didn't ask the right people!

I have posted about this on the Rumors Board. Turns out the instant costs .02 vs. .12 for brewed. I will be bringing my own next trip. I was so outraged at first, and I finallt let it go and enjoyed my stay at WL in August.

It is sad and annoying.

BTW, anyone want to start on the quality of the TP in the Disney resorts? I'll be packing my own there, too!!!!!!!

oh well, i guess we'll all be packing our own coffee
from now on, grin and bear it
i know i used to look forward to the coffee, it used
to be specatcular,

at any rate , i'm glad i brought it up, i know i'm not alone

as for the toilet paper, OOHH BOY, it used to be 500-2 ply
cottonelle.... now, forget it, recycled newspapers that
scratch you know what....................

what's next at DVC, we're forced to bring our own towels ???
just kidding, but you never know

john

Instant or not, the coffee at Spoodles is good. We grind our own beans daily at home and we like our coffee pretty strong. We've only had Disney coffee at a few places, I don't think it was ever that bad but Spoodles is really good!
I can't remember the name of the machine Disney World used in the past, the machine that used bags of concentrated coffee to make "instant" coffee. Those machines made great coffee! We had this many times in the Belle Vue Room at The Boardwalk. Yummmm....
The machines were not made by a company that is a Disney sponsor, Sony or whatever, so they had to get rid of them. We still enjoy good coffee drinks there at the lounge and good coffee with our breakfast platter at Spoodles.

It's certainly a good idea to brew your own though, we often do that as well.
