No problems AT ALL sharing, paying OOP on DP

We had four adults on the DP. Our daughter is only 9 but we wanted her to have the option of eating adult meals when she wanted. We explained that when booking the plan. However, several times she only wanted a kids meal and we paid OOP. We shared everywhere -we never ordered four meals. No one ever made us feel it was out of the norm, they even split a milkshake in two for us at SciFi, and generally plated the meals seperately. At California Grill they even gave our son who is obviously well over 9 (he's 12) a kids menu. We ordered wine and our server put the kids virgin margs as our drinks on the plan (we paid OOP for the kids meals). At both Hoop De Doo and the Luau I used six credits for the three of us and paid OOP for our 9 year old. I explained everywhere what I was doing and why, I never lied and never had any hassles anywhere. Just be aware that there is an automatic 18% gratuity already added to anything you pay OOP. When we were sharing we added an extra tip. In addition to the above we ate at Coral Reef, Tony's Town Square, Wolfgang Pucks. We also did Chef Mickeys, Crystal Palace and Akershus. At Akershus the server even asked us if we wanted to pay separately for our daughter as he felt it was a waste of a credit to use on her. We had a fabulous time, but due to all the sharing etc and paying OOP for some stuff we ended up eating just to use up credits which was a shame - our own fault though as that is not the way the plan was designed, although it was sure nice to be able to adapt it to the way that worked best for us. It also worked out win/win for Disney as we ate and paid for way more than we would have done if unable to manipulate the plan.

I'm glad to hear how well the plan worked for you!

It does kind of miff me to hear that you had to pay OOP when your child wanted a kid's meal, when you had already paid for her credits as an adult.

I think Disney should consider some accomodation there. If you're paying $37.99 for adult privleges, you should be able to take a cheaper option of a kid's meal.

Obviously, the opposite wouldn't be true (adult meal with kid credit), as Disney would lose money, but since the kid's meal is a cheaper option, I wish it was included.

The rule prohibits using child credits for adult meals... it doesn't prohibit using adult credits for child meals, and I don't understand why a restaurant would force the OP to pay OOP in those cases. Reading over the OP again, I'm not sure the OP was forced to pay OOP, versus deciding to do so herself.
