DS8 was born blind and has had an artificial corneal transplant giving him sight 2 years ago. He has other disabilities so we have a walker and wheelchair for him (in Disney we use the wheel chair there's no way he could do a whole day in the walker). NE way.... We were at the Carribbean Resort this summer and couldn't cool down in the pools because DS8 artificial cornea means he can't be in a swimming pool ever. (Between chlorine, chemicals, and germs he could lose the artificial cornea...) So I'm wondering if any of the resorts have swimming at a lake, ocean, gulf.... ???? Just wanting to plan the best possible vacation this time.... :cool1:

There is no swimming in the lakes at the resorts. Truth be told, I don't really think you would want to swim in them as most of them run boats almost nonstop. Disney in not on the ocean or gulf. The ocean is about a hour away. (But even that has "red tide" right now)

Is it possible to play in the splash fountain areas (perhaps with googles?)? MK has one, as does AK and the playground at MGM.

Also, you would not want to have him swimming in the water parks. Except for Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon, all the water slides, as well as the wave pools and lazy rivers, are treated daily with chemicals.

But, as livndisney said, you could look into getting him goggles or even a face mask (such as divers use) to keep his eyes protected but still allow him into the water.

Hello...my son is blind also...his optic nerve is underdeveloped. Did your son have ANY vision before? I was wondering...how he ajusted to suddenly being able to see. I am so happy for you all. God has blessed yall in a wonderful way. I still pray that one day my son will see. Have a blessed day! :goodvibes

If you will have a car, take the 45 minute drive to Wekiva State Park. It's a spring fed fresh water park, the water is crystal clear for 100 feet or more. There's a wonderful public swimming area with restrooms. I can't say enough about how beautiful and clean the water is there.
