So...I am totally bummed about the no outside photog in the parks. :headache: I have been speaking to my coordinator about a possible AK ceremony and reception. I am heart set on the Roots and am determined to have them. So I guess my question would be... If I wereto add the Roots to my quest list and have them as quests, do you think disney would have a heart attack if they took pictures as long as they were served a meal?? I know this would mean that I would also have to pay for disney photog too, but I almost think it's worth it! Let me know what you think.

I don't think that this would work. First almost all photographers have a policy that they would be the only ones taking pictures, so I'm not sure if the Roots would agree to this.

I think Kendra is right...

...but you could talk to the Roots about doing a bridal portrait before or after the wedding at a non-park location. I don't know if that meets your intent, but I think Jennifer and Rob did that. Disney does a good job of capturing the ceremony (IMHO), so the Roots might be able to do a portrait session with you to get the other pictures you want.

I don't think the Roots would be able to get the quality or quantity of pictures you'd want if they had to pretend to be guests. For example, I'd be worried that your planner or Disney photographer wouldn't let them move around your location very much during the ceremony.

If you have an AK ceremony and reception it would have to be in the evening to work with the park closing time. What if you hired the Roots for the morning/early afternoon to do a bridal portrait session at the AKL and any other resorts you love? Not quite the same, but...

We went through the same dilemma - we wanted a kick butt ceremony and reception in the park, but we wanted outside photography. We ultimately decided that we'd rather have the pictures than the location. (And in the grand scheme of things, it's saving us money!) Sometimes I feel like we're having a cookie-cutter Disney wedding (WP/Attic/UK DP), but I remind myself that no one attending will realize that - it will be so out of the norm for them.

With that said, the photographers will not risk their working relationship with Disney for some shots in the park for a random couple. Every wedding they photograph on property, they sign a waiver/liability/rules/release type form. If they are found to be breaking those rules, they run the chance of not being able to shoot another wedding on property.

We, too, asked if they would be willing to take a few pictures at our dessert party if we included them as guests and the answer was a polite, but firm, "NO." Even if they wanted to, they are around the parks enough to be recognized and don't want to run that risk.

I truly feel your pain, but you'll have to decide whether the ceremony/reception locations or photography mean the most for you and then go from there. And, as others have said, you can have some great engagement shoot photos at any of the resorts!

Cookie cutter Disney wedding- I wish I could afford a "crumb" lol

is it no out side photography for ceremonies outside the parks as well

Honestly, can it be much longer before they insist on only DPS for all Disney Weddings? :confused3

I seriously hope they reconsider this. I know Meg, you chose to go outside the park for this reason. And Brandon and I have been back and forth on moving out of EPCOT because we were concerned about photos too.

Unfortunately, it's thier property, so thier rules. Very monopolistic :rolleyes2

No- if you are having your wedding at any of the resorts (SBP or SP) you can hire an outside photographer. They just dont allow them in any of the parks.

Yup, plus the Wedding Pavilion also allows outside photography. :thumbsup2

No kidding!!! Seriously, our budget was double what it currently is because we were going to go all out with a ceremony and reception at MGM after the park closed, but since we could not have outside photography we decided it wasn't worth it to us. Had we found out we couldn't have any outside photography, we probably would have a resort engagement shoot and then go to Vegas. Sometimes I think Disney is cutting off the nose to spite the face... :sad2:

Have you decided what you are going to do yet?

Extremely monopolistic. :sad2: If their photography was on par with Randy Chapman, The Roots, or Misty Miotto, this wouldn't be a problem! Some brides have had gorgeous pictures from DPS, but there have been some serious problems! :scared: The bride whose entire MK shoot was lost comes to mind. LMK how you're doing with your decision!

ITA!!!

I feel a little trapped being an Escape bride and being forced to pay for Disney photography when I really love Randy Chapman. They dont even offer an exchange for the honeymoon shoot anymore.

I may be mistaken...

but i was recently on the Root Photography blog under the February 15, 2009 entry.. and it looks like they did take photos in AK last year (has the policies changed?)??? :confused3

I believe if you had your contract signed before the policy went into effect, you could have outside photography.

Yep, that's correct! I think it was contracts signed by the end of September or October of 2008. I can't remember which!

October I think, because I remember ruminating over it thinking I was going to be married in a year. :rotfl:

That's really disappointing. Although I am not engaged as of yet, dbf and I talk about getting married at WDW all the time... as i said before recently we were on the Roots website and he was looking at their AK shoot.... he was really impressed.... :woohoo:

I'm so disappointing... (and i'm not even the getting married yet)
