We visited the Fort this Saturday before returning home from our anniversary trip (just couldn't stay away). While on the bus nearing the entrance to FW, we saw 4-5 LARGE turkey walking in the grass near some trees. I immediately thought of otter stories, roasted peacock and all of the nice camping folks here on dis! :goodvibes It IS almost Thanksgiving right?? ;)

Yep, almost Thanksgiving, and those Turkeys better watch out. It would be a shame if we dropped our store bought turkey at Thanksgiving and had to go prowling the sites looking for turkeys ;)

Thanksgiving here we come!!

I too saw the turkeys the other night..... We are still at the fort right now!

We saw a load of turkeys last time we were at the Fort.

Lucky you Duane!

Sounds like those turkeys might want to keep an eye out :magnify: for
Colson39. They may get there gooses cooked. :lmao: :lmao:

There have always been an abundance of turkey on WDW property. I found the peacocks to be more of a challenge as far as hunting. I preferred to nail them on the roof tops, and the turkey seem to keep on the ground. So far, they have no real fear of humans, judging by my attempts to get them out of the way on the golf course, however I believe after I have nabbed a few, the word will get out and they will be more of a challenge. I did come very close to beaning one last year on the Oak Trails course with an errant ball. Perhaps this will become my preferred mode of hunting.

Once they start fearing you look out. Those suckers fly really really fast. They will be hard to hit.

Hey.... if LarryJ can go "fly fishing" for grapefruit.... then I guess it's okay for you to go turkey hunting by "slicing into the woods"!! To my knowledge the State of Florida doesn't require a special stamp on the hunting licence to hunt turkeys using a golf ball!!:thumbsup2

Do I look like the kind of guy who worries about what the State of Florida thinks about my hunting tactics?

Here are some turkey photos- taken 10/19/07 in the 1000 loop:

OH MY!!!! That is just soooooooooooooo wrong, in soooooooooo many ways! I get too many visions of "Nearly Headless Turkeys" running around. Then again.... would larger versions of these things work in warfare??? Hmmmmmmmmmm.........

I suppose, when it hits the target right, it is a humane means of doing the bird in. The ones on the clip never knew what hit them. But I don't think the majority of hunters are going to have that kind of skill. I will stick to my Titleist as my chosen means of hunting bird.

As a disclaimer, while not opposed to hunting, I personally don't do it and am, in fact, a conservationist and naturalist at heart. I understand the necessity of controlled hunting as a means to control numbers, but personally, if I were to shoot an animal I would probably take it to the nearest veterinarian for treatment. Kind of odd coming from a retired Army Colonel with over 27 years in service, no?

HEEYY.....I just used that same phrase in another thread.....gmta!

FWGuy...thats pretty darned respectable of you....heck I just learned to not look like Im crying when Bambis mom takes a bullet, and thats only because my kids "have forced me" (gun to my head and all, 5 yr olds can be very intimidating) to watch it over 40 times in the last couple of years. And darnit, when Dumbo goes to see his momma in the box car, and they play the stupid "Baby of Mine" song.......maaaan, i cant talk about this right now!!!:guilty: :sad1: :guilty:
