No new clothes for a year?

This is my DH too! I haaaaaaaaate his wardrobe but he refuses to let me get him new clothes. I finally was able to get him new jeans this past Christmas. He asked for 501s. And this summer, before our Disney trip, I told him I wasn't going to be seen with him in his ugly shorts from the 80's so I bought him a whole new set of Docker shorts and threw out his old ones before he got home. I ended up really liking his new shorts, but most of the time, I have to tell him, "I got it on clearance for $5" so that he'll keep it! LOL!

My DH would still be wearing his 501s if they fit. He will go tdihrough and get all new work clothes and all new ties every months to a year but god frobid he wore anything else from this decade. I gave up buying him dockers,, shorts, jeans or polo shirts. He will ignore all the nice stuff time and time again and grab a frayed pair of jeans, an old tshirt and some kind of white old guy tennis shoes every time. I almost dies and went to heaven when he got some vans that were't white.

I hate buying new clothes, new clothes means that I've gained weight. So as long as I'm only wearing my old clothes, it means I haven't put on that much weight.
.

Oh yeah there is THAT too, the whole weight thing. I gained real rapidly because of a med, so fast I went from one size up 2 sizes (more actually)So I needed new clothes in the larger size instead of stretchy pants. Then I lost weight but had nothing to wear in the in between sizes that wasn't stretched out from my march up the charts. Lost a bit more, got some new clothes decided I was never going to be THAT size again and gave away all the big clothes. Got put back on the med that made me gain all the weight and low and behold nothing fits again. So yes my closet is b\packed with clothes but they are all different sizes. I could get rid of half of them if I didn't HOPE to one day fit in them again. The whole weight thing in closets is a depressing thing to me. Stuff that fit me 6 months ago won't fit now but I don't plan on being this weight forever so I hold on to stuff.

Hey, maybe... I could "shop" in SIL's closet without spending any money. Would that count? :rotfl:

I "shop" my sister's closet everytime I visit. I even get her hand-me-down coach purses. If you're not spending money then it doesn't count! :)

Our closets and drawers are FULL of clothes ....

I read somewhere that Americans only use 15% of their clothes. Doesn't that seem like a waste of several things...money, resources, and space, to name a few?

(If I look in my closest I'd have to agree. Some days I'm tempted to pack it all up and only keep what I really wear.)

Could your family do this? I'm thinking mine really could! Our closets and drawers are FULL of clothes and I just got new socks and unders for everyone for free with deals at Meijers. I'm pretty tempted to challenge myself and see what happens :)

.

We honestly cannot do that here with the growth of my kids. If they would just stop growing I would be okay. lol We also have to buy for sports and such otherwise I severely limit what we buy in clothes

Right now I can say yes, I could go a whole year w/out buying clothes. But my kids are still growing and there's no way that ds's summer clothes will still fit him next summer (because much of what he's wearing this summer is from last summer!) and forget about his feet - they grow like weeds!!!

You know, me too. I wear and wash the same 3-4 pairs of bottoms and tops over and over. Since I work from home most days, I really only need two work outfits a week. I keep thinking about packing it all up and sticking it in the attic. Then when I need to "shop" to just shop from there instead of the stores.

except for shoes for work, i think i could get by on what I already own. Same with son, maybe 1 pr of shoes, and i think he would be good for a year.

lol...shopping from your attic could be fun, and think of the money one could save for Disney!

OP here, I've thought about it some more and I'm going to give it a try! Wish me luck, and strength! It will be hard to resist good sales! I have such a great reason to save though that it is worth a try. I'll keep seeing us having a great 2 week vacation next Christmas at BLT/OKW.

1 week down and 51 or so to go! :)
