It's Beth. I love my mom but I really wish she would have chosen a different name for me. All my life whenever someone asks my name they always get it wrong.

No it's not death! (Right. Because someone would really name their baby death. "Look hon. She has your eyes. Let's call her death.)

No it's not bath either. And it's not short for Betty or Elizabeth. It's just Beth.

My mom did mention she toyed with the idea of calling me Priscilla. My middle name starts with an A. And before I married, my last name started with a P.
Sooooo....my initials would have been PAP. As in smear. Yeah, that would've been much better! :teeth:

Our godson had hearing problems early in life and for years my wife and I were Oo-nay and Cheese. Not as bad as "Death"; probably about as good as "Bath."

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!!

Whenever I say "Beth" on the phone, NO ONE can understand it! When I got my first job out of travel agent school, I decided to go by "Elizabeth" at work and not "Beth", which is what my friends and family call me. I do 99% of my work over the phone, so you can see why I did that!

I do have problems still. Occasionally, I'll introduce myself as "Elizabeth" and instantly they say "Oh, how ya doing, Liz!" Um, 1 second ago I gave my name as "Elizabeth". Why did you just call me Liz?

It's crazy I'm tellin ya!
When I make reservations (or whatever) over the phone and I have to say my name, I'll say "It's Beth and that's spelled B-E-T-H", because I know they are going to not understand me anyways. Oh well. And it seems like such a harmless, simple little name.

 Fellow name complainers...I feel your pain!

My name is Shelley....with 2 e's and no it's not short for Michelle.

My name is not Sherry, nor is it Shirley....that's my MIL.

That felt good!

Someone really thought your name was Death? :rotfl: :rotfl: What the heck were they on?

My mom's name is Priscilla. Her middle name is Elizabeth and her maiden name started with an E. Yep, her initials were PEE. Pretty, huh? :rotfl: That woman made darn sure that none of HER kids had an odd monogram!

My name is Beth too and there have been times that I've had to repeat myself over the phone. I've never been called Death but I have been called Bet and Seth :confused3 Like you my name is also just Beth..I always have people asking if it's Elizabeth or Bethany. Nope, just Beth!

I love the name Beth - I named my youngest Elizabeth and we call her Beth.

The reason we went with Elizabeth is because when I turned 13 - I wished I had a longer grown up name - I am not a Laura or Lauren -- just a plain old Lori... so I named my daughters names they could shorten or lengthen as they liked.

I love Bess and Beth - but people sometime misunderstand or they think Bess is the name of the cow - it grates on my nerves to here someone call her Liz

With Victoria - we went with Tori - no ones seems to have a problem with that

Tell them your name is Steph- they will think you said Beth- I always get Bethany or Beth & my name is Stephanie!!

That is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. If you just introduced yourself as "Bob" would you be okay with me calling you "Steve"????

My family still calls me "Beth", too. It's "Elizabeth" to everyone else. Still have to remind my father-in-law of that, even after 17 yrs of marriage to his son. Sigh.

I hear you. My name is Jenny. Not short for anything.

Everyone at work knows that.

Last year we hired a new girl. Her name was Jennifer. To make things easier, she went by Jennifer, and I went by Jenny.

She got fired, and now for some reason, everyone at work calls me Jennifer now!

Oh I am right here on this one....MELISA -- Marissa, Alisa, Martha and my
favorite Michelle....not even close there but they say it....

My last name is no better.....they constantely screw that up tooo...
:earboy2:

There are two people at my school. Ki-ANNA and Keanu. My friend says their names exactly the same. So theyll be like Ki-ANNA went out with Casey and Ill think I hear Keanu

My name is Kimberley but everyone spells it Kimberly

Or KYM instead of Kim.

My name is Laurie and people ALWAYS think i am saying Glory, i have never even met anyone named Glory?? I guess it's the way I say it?????????????

I dont think anyone has ever spelled my last name right..

Same here! I have people keep calling me Liz and wondering why I don't answer. Well, because I don't realize you are talking to me, that is not my name!

I do tech support over the phone, and no one understands when I say Beth. I am so used to be called Steph now that I am surprised I have not called myself that! :rotfl:

OMGosh -- I thought I was the only Lori that ever happened to --- I am suprised at how many people at work think I am saying Glory when I answer the phone "Blah Blah Blah, this is Lori can I help you?"

so many people say "Hi Glory" :confused3
