No More Villains!

It says Broadway Smash Hit Musical, so I'm guessing the new one currently on Broadway?

It hasn't been on Broadway for 3 years (It closed in August of 2014). But they did film it either while it was running or on the tour, so that is probably what you're seeing.

I guess you were never subjected to Toy Story: The Musical on Disney Wonder.
I believe she has been. I really hated Toy Story, but Villains (bad as it was) I could tolerate. I was sort of sad the first time I saw it, as the concept of the show sounded great, but the actualization of it - not so much.

Oh yes, a few times...and while I felt it dragged out at least I enjoyed the songs...except when Sid sang...that was like nails on a chalkboard lol!!! Funny thing is I absolutely love all things Villains.....heck I was even Maleficent onboard last year for Halloween on the High Seas!! Just did not like the show.

They actually recently did a reunion just for the purposes of filming. I've seen it multiple times and I think they did a fantastic job of producing a live stage show for film.

I just have to brag that when the Newsies film came out years ago (Christian Bale looks like a baby) I said to everyone I knew, "Why don't they make a Broadway show on this? It would be perfect" and years and years go by and finally they did! They took my advice ;)

I love the movie Newsies! It's awesome but agree that it's not the same thing as a magnificent stage show

movie received great reviews but I am concerned about how this will work considering it is 149 minutes long...

We watched Into the Woods for our evening show and it runs at 161 minutes (pure torture! 161 minutes I will never get back :sad2:) We barely had time to get dressed for dinner, as I recall (we were 2nd seating, so our show ran 1st, and as I recall, they did start the show early from what they typically did that cruise).

Oops, it's in Phila i think? Or just had been.

Right, also, I would think they could really only work on it when the Dream's in Canaveral. Otherwise, they'd have to have a place to store the things they've removed and space is always at a premium on the ship...
They not only have to put in props, but I'm sure there is a lot of electrical changes need to be made. and your right, in port would be the best, they have to take off the ship the old props and bring in the new props. and only have twice a week to do that and just maybe 16 hours per week and not get in the way of the luggage being taken off and coming on the ship

Exactly. Loading a new show into a theatre is complicated enough on land where a) that is the only show for that theatre and b) it is being worked on all day for months. Even tour companies take a couple of days to load in everything needed - and again, that is on a free stage where it can be worked on for an entire workday (or longer if you have essentially two teams).

On the Dream, they do not have a dedicated theatre - there are things in there at least twice a night, and there are two other shows going on. Add to that the limited space to store things period and you've really got no choice outside of a drydock but to do something like showing a movie for a few weeks while the old sets are removed from their places and the ship and new ones are put on and in. Then add in technical rehearsals to ensure that everything works and there you go.

Obviously changing over while the Dream was in drydock would have been ideal, but for whatever reason (likely the show not being ready to even go into rehearsals yet) they didn't do it that way. So they're doing the best they can.

It's weird that it would take 2 months. When they switched out all the bathtubs on the Wonder a few years ago our stateroom host told us they had all the bathtubs (one for every cabin) below decks and switched them out of the empty cabins during the cruise. Even though stage sets are large, they aren't as big as hundreds and hundreds of bathtubs. They can do a complete drydock overhaul in less time than a stage set??

At the very least they should have some performers do a live performance of popular Disney songs like they do on the longer cruises. We've seen a few where there were zero sets and only needed a tiny corner of the stage (before the curtain where the cruise director does his spiel).

As a point of reference... Frozen doesn't start previews on Broadway until February and they are already working on the theatre.

We are going on our first cruise in October. So I have no experience to base this on. But for some reason, I'm slightly relieved by this as I'm sure we won't want to sit through a movie...so in my mind, this seems to buy us extra time to explore, do the slide, or whatever else. I wasn't sure I wanted to do a show 4 nights in a row, so now I have an excuse!

So sorry. BATB is the reason I used my placeholder for the Dream. So excited!

Don't understand why they wouldn't run a more recent first-run movie? Although, I frankly would rather watch Newsies than be tortured watching Into The Woods again *shudder* That would have been a GREAT time to visit the pool/aquaduck!!

We went into Into The Woods expecting it to be fantastic and were miserable. It was such a bad movie. We still laugh about how horrid it was.
