No more stroller swap - should we bring ours?

We leave on Thursday and have never flown with the kids before. They are DS10, DS7, DD6, DD3. We are bringing the 3 yo her car seat to sit in on the plane. Do you think that it would be way too much to also bring her stroller on the plane? Do they even have a place to store it? I am not sure about checking it with the rest of the luggage because I don't know how to protect it. I am also not exactly keen on renting a stroller for 5 days. (I just don't have that in the budget) Any suggestions?

btw, if it sounds like I am whining, I'm sorry, I'm not trying to. I am just clueless as to what to do.

you can bring your stroller to the gate and have it gate checked. When you get off the plane in Orlando, the stroller will be waiting for you at the gate. I think it's definately better to gate check the stroller because once you check all of your other luggage, you will still have the stroller to use throughout the airport until you board the plane. We used ours to carry the car seat and carry on's.

I flew for the first time over Christmas with 5 kids ages 8,7,5,3, and 9 months. We only took a car seat for the baby, but he's too heavy to carry in his car seat so we kept him in a stroller all the way to the plane. When you're in line to board they will put a little tag on the stroller then you keep the child in it until right up to the plane, then take them out and they will take the stroller and you keep a part of the ticket. When you get off of the plane the stroller will be waiting for you, you just give them your ticket. It worked great for us since the baby is so heavy!

BTW, we didn't use a car seat on the plane for our 3yo, we just checked it with our luggage so we'd have it for the rental car.

Hope that helps!

Stop at Target (or Wal-Mart, if you absolutely must...ugh)... after you get off the plane; buy an inexpensive umbrella stroller (about $15) to get you through the week; if it makes it back home with you, great; if not- who cares... better yet- offer it to someone arriving at the airport with kids on your way home. Still cheaper than renting for the week!!!

kikipug-you are right, buying one from Target isn't a bad idea. It will be nice and clean and cheaper than renting! I still might gate check it, since I know now that it can be done! It will save time during our trip, too. Who wants to go shopping for non-disney stuff on vacation? Thanks again everyone :D

I have not checked since this summer but Downtown disney toy store also sells this umbrella stroller there if you have the need of it and no way to get to Target or walmart.

I say go for it with the car seat on the plane and gate check the stroller. We have done it a couple of times. Yes it is alot to carry but the stroller was a lifesaver in the airport! In my opinion a 3yr. old is safer in a closely watched stroller than holding a hand in a busy airport or being held. The car seat on the plane was great too because I knew that my child was not going to be able to wiggle out or undo the plane seatbelt. Have a great time and good luck!

Thanks Lisa-I think that you just convinced me to do just that. I agree that I would feel better having her in the stroller through the airport. Especially with 3 other kids to keep an eye on.
