No more Stanby line for A&E?

Add to that Elsa is older than your typical friend of the other Princesses. I believe she has been hard to cast. I believe Merida has been another that is difficult for them. The accent and coloring are more specialized.

I think the problem with Elsa is the wig. That hair color doesn't look good on anyone. It's not translating well in real life. Looks great animated, but not on an actual person. None of the girls who I've seen in advertisements or when we went to WDW in February look that much like Elsa. The wig just throws it all off.

Still think these roles are not impossible to cast, and they need to do a better job of it. They have casting calls all around the country. One of my friends was recruited at LSU, abs spent five years portraying Cinderella & Aurora.

Wow...I'm envisioning lots of little girls with tears when they can't see they're favorite princesses! Seems like there should be other options...

Oh my... girls in tears, how dramatic. Yeah. 50,000 guests. 100 per hour can visit A&E. I sure hope parents in general are able to redirect their kids in such a way that they are not in tears and balling at Disney World over seeing these princesses.

Really.

There are many things in life that are only won / lucked into by a few. Do your kids ball if they can't get a hot concert ticket? If they don't win their school raffle? If you don't win the lottery? If you don't get thru calling a radio station? Come on ppl life is full of things that only benefit the "lucky 1%" or whatever that happens upon them.

This is getting out of hand.

My daughter adores Frozen, we've watched it countless times, and she got to sing the song thru for Elsa in May! But still... if we were not able to get FP+'s for it we were like "ok, whatever we'll do something else".

Seriously. This is all parent "must-do-hype" and has nothing to do w the kids.

We didn't get to ride the SDMT and it opened 3 days after we left. I was one of those most eagerly awaiting it, and even delayed our trip a week in anticipation of riding it... I followed every move, and then didn't get to. Were we in tears? Bah. It was Disney World we were off having a magical time.

Got to see A&E, didn't get to ride SDMT. Take the good w the bad, move on go have fun.

I just have to laugh.

This has absolutely nothing to do w casting. Rumors. There are thousands of beautiful women clamoring for these spots and I'm sure more than 3 of them would look gorgeous in the dress and wig. This is simply Disney making a strategic decision. They started w just a handful of A&E slots in 1 M&G room, and now they're running multiples. And they have varying shifts, so they want to get the right number of people employed for this... not hire up in a frenzy, build excessively, and then when the Frozen fever dies down have to lay them all off and tear down.

I think this is a great approach... they're removing the 300-minute line, which is the real problem - people wasting 5 hours of their day in line. Now you get a reservation. Kind of like FP-, but not exactly since it's managed by a CM, does not allow standby, and will be gone 15 min into the day. This way they have no line. It benefits the early-arriver who didn't have a FP+. Now there will be a race to the customer service window, but once it closes, then the problem closes too for then you just can't see A&E. A&E aren't seeing any fewer people.

You now have two ways to see them... midnight 60 days in advance, plus day-of run at rope drop.

Yay, another person who thinks the way they feel should apply to everyone else!

And speaking of fuzzy logic - comparing attractions for which people spend enormous amounts of money to go to Disney World to experience with contests, raffles, and games of chance?? :lmao:

Merida is a tough one. The bright blue eyes, a very small nose, young-looking (since she's not even supposed to be grown up) and then the accent.

My DD is old enough to know that the princesses are friends of the princesses but she is also good at suspending her disbelief and having fun with meet and greets. Merida was the only one that she couldn't suspend her disbelief ;)

Once again, Character Building and Disappointment becomes promoted on the DIS as a WDW feature. :rotfl:

Where were you with these life lessons when people were saying they were going to go somewhere besides WDW on their next vacation because of the unpredictable changes? Some people reacted here with a great big "THINK OF THE POOR CHILDREN!!!!" battle cry, as if the OP's vacation plans had changed to take the kids to Nike factories in China instead. Those poor souls needed this valuable perspective. :thumbsup2

I kind of agree. I still think it would be good if they had them in more locations, there are certainly enough empty spaces in other parks. But it is what it is. You get a chance for a FP, you get a chance for one of these tickets. If you don't get it, you try again tomorrow or move on. As a parent, I'd rather just know at the beginning of the day and then move on, but that's just me. I think now that you can see them in the FoF parade, as well as the little parade and sing-a-long show over at DHS gives the parents of the Frozen-crazed a few options to at least see them, so that's good. Hopefully they keep that singalong at DHS for a while.

Yay, another person who thinks the way they feel should apply to everyone else!

What do you mean?

My premise was that if A&E can handle 100 guests per hour, 1000 guests in a day, and there are 50,000 guests, then you KNOW only 2% of people in general will get to see them. Someone said little girls will be in tears because of Disney doing this... and so I said no, if you know up front that only 2% will get to see them, then parents should take it upon themselves to not tell their kids they'll get to see them if they are not sure they will and it would put them in tears. That is shame on the parents for promising something they most likely (98%) cannot deliver on!

That's like promising your child she'll win the lottery.

And speaking of fuzzy logic - comparing attractions for which people spend enormous amounts of money to go to Disney World to experience with contests, raffles, and games of chance?? :lmao:

Yet, 50,000 guests ALL paid the enormous amounts of money. So 49,000 such enormous-amount-paying-guests will *not* get to see A&E. That is just the reality. You are not special because you paid what you feel is an enormous amount when everyone else is doing the same.

frozen is very popular with children and just like other popular characters kids want to meet them. there are meet and greets there with anna and elsa at disney and they are advertised. not even being permitted to wait in stand by line for an attraction that is part of the general admission ticket does not strike me as the same thing.

i think its a lot different then knowing a ride hasn't opened yet and being disappointed when it doesn't open during your stay. its more like buying that concert ticket based on advertising of several different bands and then being told that you have to get there early and fight for an opportunity to see one of the bands they advertised as part of the show.

I realize there are plenty of ways around this disappointment but not everyone is a seasoned disney goer and will be aware of what they need to do in order to meet these two. I can see people missing the ball but telling their kids about the meet and and greet. So I agree with pp that kids are going to end up crying over this when they show up and can't get in.

I'm guilty of it myself...when we were going to disney in June I did get an anna and elsa fastpass. I made the mistake of telling my 5 year old son about it and he was very excited. i had not mentioned a &e before because i was not doing a 300 min wait However about a week before we were scheduled to leave that entire day vanished from mde. I called and long story shorter was told they couldn't help me. I was lucky because I sent an email to the IPO at the GF and the manager there helped us out. my son would have been fine but the disappointment wouldn't have gone unnoticed. this was not my must do, trust me i couldn't care less for myself.

But just think of all the fun we can have replying to her tomorrow if she is wrong. There might be a positive in all of this. ;)

You're terrible :)

Hey Disney, here's an idea. Add Anna & Elsa to Akershus, do a meet and greet at DHS, do one at Epcot. You know, multiple parks? Like every other princess? Sheesh. It just doesn't seem that complicated.

Yeah, I don't get their reluctance with this. They are a major media/entertainment company. This shouldn't be this hard, not like building more rides. Hey, it might even spread the crowds out from MK, win-win.

I think that's a bit harsh. My kids are too young to be that into Anna and Elsa but I know so many little girls that love Frozen and meeting their favorite characters would mean a lot to them. I wouldn't roll my eyes at a 5 year old crying because she can't meet Elsa. I might use it as an opportunity to talk about how you can't always get what you want but at the same time I'd be very sympathetic because it is a disappointment to them and they are still learning how to deal with emotions like that. It might be silly to a grown up but to them it's actually very important.

Also I don't think meeting a character at Disney should have the same chances as winning the lottery. I'm not sure how I feel about the new system but I do feel bad for any kid that is sad that they can't meet Anna or Elsa.

Well I don't know if A and E line times showed up on the app before, but the attraction is not even listed now.

Yep this is the source of the problem in my opinion. Parents either not knowing the facts or knowing them and ignoring them. As we letting their mouth write checks they can't cash. This then leads the melt-down and the "But we paid a lot of money for this experience." as you say "Yea everyone paid a lot of money, get over it."

???

And where does Disney advertise this very limited availability in it's advertising? Where does it set this expectation with the 100's of thousands of first-time guests that visit Disney each month? Is it unreasonable for them to expect the opportunity for their children to meet their favorite Princess(s) that are heavily advertised - even if they have to stand in line?

Yes, shame on those parents.....

I'm not as worried about the meet and greet as I am actual rides. Something like A&E you would only do once a trip. You only need to get 1 FP. What if I want to ride TSMM 5 times? Or Space Mountain?
If they are handing out paper tickets that aren't tied to your admission ticket (like legacy FP was), you could just keep getting on the end if the line to get a 'return to standby line' ticket, and accumulate a number of those to ride multiple times.

I have never seen the line wait times on the app on my devices. I've looked before.

A&E are showing up on the touring plans app with a posted 95 min wait. It looks like there was nothing special done with the standby line today.

This is the method being used for Frozen Sing A Long. If you want to see it more than once you have to get back in line and get another. You can but you can't get 2 slots at one time, based on reports I've read.

I wonder what the going rate would be for one of those slips. I can picture it now..... a man in a trench coat hanging out in the summer Florida heat........ lurking around Fantasyland ......... "Pssssst..... how bad do you want to see Anna and Elsa?"

I have a FP+ for A&E for August but I'm so afraid of loosing it that When my dd5 ask us if we will see Elsa we keep it vague as I don't want her to be too disappointed if we cannot see her. It would ruin her fun at WDW if she knew about it and couldn't go.
