Ok maybe the title is a bit melodramatic but no rooms anywhere at the YC or the GF?

Has anyone ever heard or run into this?

We're getting married in January and have our room block (which runs Jan 7-Jan 16) at the Grand Floridian, the Yacht Club, and the Port Orleans Riverside. We had a guest told last week and today that not only was our block full but that there were no rooms ANYWHERE at the GF or the YC. I checked with our coordinator last week and she told us that was not the case, that there were other rooms at those resorts. However this evening a guest was told the same thing. By the time I found out about it, the wedding reservations phone number was closed for the day.

Is it really possible (especially with a tanking world economy) that the GF and YC are booked solid?

TIA!

I have to say I tried to book our reservations about a month ago for our hm and went through the direct line to see prices compared to the wedding discount and they told us there weren't rooms for JULY of next year! I mean seriously the gf is sold out for next july?! So I called the number for the reservation line for our wedding and they said no problem we can extend and book you thats no problem there are plenty of rooms... so definitely call tomorrow to your planner since they have to add the rooms first through your block and they will email the people that book the reservations through your wedding and then you can confirm it with the reservation people!! We simply added more days/rooms with no problems! Hope that makes sense!? HTH!

That is odd for January..Have you went to disneyworld.com to see if there are any rooms? Try and make a reservation and see what comes up for your dates.

Tricia - It was the wedding line that told our guests there weren't any rooms. Which seems very odd (and it gets odder below). I have an email in to my planner but waiting until tomorrow is just killing me. We had extended the block a few months ago to include more GF rooms, but I'm not even sure there are rooms into which we can expand.

Lynn - I didn't even think to check the regular disney website. Thanks! There aren't any rooms at the YC (which I still can't believe) but per the WDW website there ARE rooms at the GF. So, now I am SUPER irritated with the group reservation people.

ARGH.

Thanks for listening!

A large chunk of that time will be booked solid at those resorts because of marathon weekend, which runs January 9-11. Both of those resorts are highly sought after by race participants because of their locations.

Hmmm..thanks for that tidbit. My dad always runs the Disney marathon but he had never stayed at the GF or the YC so I didn't realize that those were highly sought after.

So, I noticed your countdown/ticker thing...is January 12th your day? Because that's our day too! :)

Apparently, the group reservations people are wrong (which is kind of scary!). My coordinator (who is a superstar for emailing me afterhours) said there is room and asked for the 2 guests/families' phone numbers so that they can be contacted directly tomorrow by group reservations.

Good I'm glad you got that figured out!

:) Yeah I'm glad it was figured out tonight too...this is the sort of thing that just makes me CRAZY :lmao:

Yeah our planner is AWESOME.

Although she found out this morning that the GF, the YC, the Beach Club, the Poly, and the Contemporary are all 100% booked solid. So nothing can be added.

Fortunately, the Port Orleans block (and resort) still has rooms. One of our single friends is going to split with another single friend so that solves one of the problems but we still have one other family/guest that needs to be sorted out.

I really thought we were underestimating the room block AND that we were staying on top of it. Apparently not.

Most of my wedding guests are booked Dec 10th - 14th and we were told theres no rooms left ANYWHERE. Seriously nothing from POP on up to the Grand, booked solid. We had a guest that wanted to upgrade their hotel and were told there was nothing left at any Disney Resort. Spoke with the Group Reservation lines and they told us the only chance of a room would be to call every day and hope for cancellations.

Calismic-

Really? That is just unbelievable...I had no idea it was this packed/booked!

I know the first 14 days of December are huge for DVC members(adventure season=less points per night). Like you better book ASAP when your 11 month booking window opens. I didn't think the regular hotels were booked up also.

I think I read that they moved the Pop Warner football thing from the first week of Dec to the second.

Sarah -- That is awesome, that we share the date!! Ours is at 10 am at the Wedding Pavilion! When is yours and where is your reception? Sorry your planner couldn't help with rooms, but the resorts along the marathon & 1/2 marathon course AND the monorail resorts fill very quickly for marathon weekend. Frankly, I'm thrilled to hear you have rooms left at Port Orleans -- many of the more "seasoned" runners will stay there just the night before their race to walk to the starting corrals (shhh.....not that they are supposed to).

POP Warner is the 7th - 13th, I didn't even think of that. I could have sworn it was initially the first week in December!

Keener-
Our ceremony is at 6pm at the Whitehall patio with reception/plated dinner to follow in the Whitehall room! Where is your reception?

It has worked out one couple is going to bunk with their relatives at the YC for 1 night and a single friend is just going to stay with another single friend. Which therefore takes care of our entire guest list.

And so it is time to move onto the next mini crisis! :rotfl: :lmao:

There might be a convention going on at that time?? Both the GF and YC do a lot of convention business, don't they, and I know that Disney tends to cater to conventioners first, so maybe that's the problem you're running into.:confused3

Sarah -- That is amazing! Our ceremony is at 10 at WP and our reception is at Whitehall Room and Patio until 4pm! You'll be there right after us. I'll be sure we don't linger too long and that our guests aren't too messy! ;)

That's so crazy we're right after you! Maybe we'll see each other!
