No More Resort Merchandise?

I can't speak for any of the other resorts but we just got back from a stay at AKL (our first and it was AMAZING!!!) and I found quite a decent amount of resort-specific merchandise. I actually went into the gift shop with no expectations because I had already read this thread and was pleasantly surprised! They had mugs, shot glasses, luggage tags, magnets, key chains, pins, and t-shirts and sweatshirts in a variety of styles. They were very prominently displayed and were also in the display window. I bought myself a mug, t-shirt, and magnet and love all of them! Here are some pics of the merch:

Any location across WDW that sells pins should have some for the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

WDWKOOK - I'm fairly positive there was an AKL pin but I do not recall seeing an ornament, unfortunately (and I would probably have noticed since I collect Christmas tree ornaments).

I was in the AKL gift shop during our June trip and yes, as your photo shows it had an above average amount of resort specific merchandise (albeit not as broad -- in terms of types of items -- as what was once at other resorts. Ergo, no linens, prints and selections of bags and totes). Whatever, the fact also remains that what your photos show is not the norm of what is going on resort wide, nor is there any guarantee there will be as much merchandise at AKL going forward given the Disney belt tightening.

Hopefully, they are still selling the resort ornaments at the Christmas store in DTD. Can anyone confirm seeing them recently?

No resort ornaments at the Christmas Shop in DTD. They have been discontinued.

Incredibly disappointed in this decision...nothing specialized any more. Seems so silly to me...thanks for the update, though.

This is disappointing. I was bummed when this year I made my first trip to AKL and found out I couldn't get a resort refillable mug. Up until this time I had stayed mostly at Wilderness Lodge. (Now I'm torn between the two for my next trip).

I didn't like the generic logo on the cup so I didn't buy one. While our resort had more logo merchandise than other deluxes I didn't buy anything just because I figured i would on my next trip. Now I'm kicking myself.

I think the only thing that would work is a flood of letters and cutting back on your purchase of generic items. However, it's true, there are far less of us "repeat offenders" than there are "first timers" who buy, buy, buy and don't really care about resort themed merchandise.

Disappointing but hardly surprising. This reflects the general trend of WDW merchandise over the years. Homogenize & monetize.
