No More Pin Trading w/ CMs

While I'm not a pin trader I do have to say that I take sides with most of you. I'm not in any way downing on Disney for stopping this, but I do think that they could make a way for it to still be done just with a little more precaution. I am sorry for those of you who will be missing out. I hope that Disney will re-think it and maybe start it again. Pin trading has to be a neat thing, but I think I would be scared that I would get in over my head. There are some really neat pins out there though!!

The bottom line is this: I won't be awake nights now that there is no pin trading onboard.

But the reason for it just torks me off.

If I had to make a list of common activities that spread germs around, I'd be putting pin-trading just above receiving a bingo card from the Bingo King.

:( sniff. I keep waiting for someone to say "April Fool's!" :sad2:

We had great fun - even DH! - pin trading on the Magic in November. It's such a fun way to meet people! ::yes::

I did notice on this past Wonder 3 nt cruise on the 27th that some of the items on the buffets and drinks were being dished out by the servers. Is this new? I did not see one CM wearing a lanyard w/pins which we thought was strange and that is why we asked.

My dd's will be so upset over this.....I hope it is just temporary! The pin trading, (believe it or not) was one of the highlights of my dd's trip! They absolutely loved it and it made them feel so special that the CM's took the time out to talk to them :guilty:

OK so we have only heard about this happening on the Wonder right now? Is someone going to be on the Magic soon who can check on this there?

I can't believe Disney would do something as ridiculous as to blame pin trading for outbreaks.
Peggie,

I don't get the impression that they BLAME pin trading for the virus outbreaks.

I think they are trying to identify the potential for "unnecessary" contact/exchange between Cast Members and guests (to protect both from getting sick).

They cannot stop serving food, but they can (and do) minimize the exchange of germs there by having CMs serve at buffets (has been that way for a couple years now at least) and probably they are anal about servers washing up continuously in the dining rooms.

Shutters is a money making proposition - and doing away with it would irk a LOT more guests.

Pin trading on the other hand is "just" an interaction between CMs and guests. If it prevents a couple of people from getting sick (especially CMs) then they probably figure it's worth doing away with. It's not a money making proposition that they are doing with, and it is not a vital service (like serving food) that they simply cannot live without.

I'm with Lisa...
Let's see what transpires in the very near future with cruises on the Magic and the Wonder. Anyone cruising shortly that would be willing to investigate the matter on board and then post to this thread after their cruise with an update? Once we know the full story and Disney's plan for the future of pin trading, then we can all decide if we need to start sending emails/letters to DCL about it. Opinions?

Obviously, this is just one family's opinion, but my kids would much rather be pin trading than eat!!! :earboy2: We will be on the Magic this coming Saturday, and they'll be sooooo disappointed if they can't trade with the CM's :confused3 They really don't collect (meaning they don't know the "true value"), but they actively trade for the ones they like. Hopefully, other passengers will be trading with each other anyway.

Actually, on our 11/15/03 Eastern & 12/4/04 Western cruises we had to take our own food from the buffets. The CMs didn't serve us at all. That's why I am wondering if they have changed this policy during flu season as well.

I do believe that the kids will be disappointed. Ours loved trading for the first time on our last cruise & really appreciated the attention the CMS paid to them when they were looking at their lanyards to trade.

Lisa...I understand exactly what you are saying. When DD5 was trading with CMs on both our cruises, they looked intently at her lanyard to see which one they wanted. She was so excited to trade with the CMs and especially the one night with the officers! Hopefully this is not a permanent deletion!

This happens every time around this time of year. My assumption is
that DCL is doing whatever they can to I guess, have as little hand to
hand contact????

There is still a designated time that you can trade on the ship which
will be in your Navigator. The CM to guest, guest to CM trading has
been postponed until Flu season calms down a bit. But they are looking
forward to bringing it back as soon as possible.

I think it would be GREAT for everyone to email DCL and Guest Relations
and let them know how much it is missed and you want it back as soon
as they feel it is safe. It is important to send it in writing to them.

I think it will come back soon............

Thanks for finding that out for us Dana. :) I know that your sources are reliable. I didn't think that you would be online now or I would have called you when I first saw this.

I'll be going in April, but thats a little while for me, but if they're still going with this @ that time I'll definately figure it out

only 68 days :hourglass

Thanks Dana! I appreciate your checking into this for us! Hopefully flu season will be short! Stay healthy all!

Just got documents for February 10th cruise so I decided to call direct and dsee what they say...according to Disney Cruise Lines they have not discontinued pin trading ....now, this came from a disney cruise line reservationist?????sure would like to find out for sure....and how the pin trading they are doing is going to work???

Unfortunantly, you can call the DCL resi number three times & get three different answers. Usually they don't know what is going on on the ships until DISers tell them. LOL!

Whoever you ask, make sure it is regarding CMs trading their pins. They can't stop the passengers from trading pins. We just know what was happening on our cruise.

Time to bring this forum back to life, does anyone know if this is still going on, or have they brought back the pin-trading yet?!

only 48 more days!!! :hourglass

I read on another post today - Live from the Magic this week - that the pin trading had resumed! I am so happy because my kids were looking forward to it!
