Just thought anyone interested in trading pins with the Cast Members should know that due to the recent flu outbursts etc. on other ships, Disney has decided to discontinue that portion on their cruise. My DSs were disappointed since they had picked up quite a few pins that they wanted to trade this past weekend. Officials told us that they stopped 4 days ago.

Oh no! We're bringing a whole bunch of pins! Did they give you any idea when they would start again?

Bummer! :guilty: That was one of the reasons I was considering a Disney Cruise as a suprise for the family. Guess I'll stick to just the land portion.

Peg

One of the CMs told me that they probably will not do it again! But who knows. I could somewhat understand the problem with the virus problem, etc. I noticed that they still had pin trading sessions for guests. Although, we didn't attend any. My DSs just do it for fun. We figured we'll just have to go over to Downtown Disney or the outlet shop and let them trade a little one weekend. But I wish we had known earlier since we did stop up on pins ahead of time!

Oh great! My kids don't collect them, but I thought they would get a kick out of trading them on the cruise (it was a surprise). I bought a bunch on Ebay and even bought them 2 lanyards to put them on. Anyone want to buy some pins??????

CT: all depends on what they are and there prices :P

I really hope they bring that back before i go in april!!!

I sure hope that they do it again before next December. The kids both came out of their shells doing the pin trading & were so excited with their treasures.

Bummer man :confused3 This is one of the key points to any pin trader.. Hopefully it will only last a couple of months during the flu season :worship:

got any specifically for DCL?

I guess I was on the last cruise that did this, as I traded pins on the Jan 22-29 cruise. Glad my kids were able to get in on it.

I am thinking they have a cruise each year (in November?) specifically aimed at pin-trading? I always thought that "Pin-aholics" (said only with love and respect, as I am one) :earsboy: can take this cruise devoted to their hobby, so they can smoosh (sp?) with others who share their interest. Do you think they will allow the pin trading to go on for that cruise now? Or will this go by the wayside? Or is there absolutely no such thing and I dreamed it, or have lost my mind? Just wondering...

There is definitely a pin trading cruise that was started by Dana at micdan on the Wonder. It is in November. I seriously doubt that will be stopped because of this.

Thanks for your response Lisa. I didn't think I was having a complete ding-bar moment. I have always wanted to go on a pin-trading cruise, but since hubby has no interest in pin trading, and at the cost of cruises, I just have never pursued it. Perhaps, when DD5 gets a tiny bit older, maybe she and I could take one. If it is on the Wonder, then it is a 3/4 day which is doeable for me and my princess. Thanks again!

I think DCL stopping CM's from pin-trading is ridiculous.

Should the servers stop serving us food?

When Shutters puts our photos on the wall, shouldn't they be behind glass?

When I buy something, should they just toss my KTTW card and issue me a new one on the spot? I mean, you never know...

This whole thing could be minimized if the CM took 5 seconds to wipe down a pin with a diaper-wipe before trading, if there was a real concern.

How about sick people just staying off the damn boat instead of passing their germs around?

I think that you have a very valid point. After thinking about it I am wondering if the buffets are still serve yourself or if they have gone to having the CMs put all of the food you want on your plate. If not, then stopping pin trading is rediculous.

If the idea is, that people are touching the pins, and then passing them onto someone else, then what about everything everyone picks up and looks at in the shops, but decides not to purchase and puts back? Same principle I think. Seems a rather drastic activity to cut, when it is so enjoyed by the kids. One would think that DCL could come up with some kind of "process", so that pin trading would not have to be eliminated completely.

I can't believe Disney would do something as ridiculous as to blame pin trading for outbreaks.
They need to do research on this and see if pin traders have a higher incidence of the bug. And is a CM with a lanyard sicker more often than others. I doubt they would find either is true.
Disney needs to promote better handwashing for both CM's and guests. And they need to install the dispensers for Purell like most Doctor's offices have in their waiting rooms now. Then they need to post in the daily newletter that these are installed and that cruisers should use them OFTEN!
I carry pocket size bottles of scented alcohol gel that I bought at Bath and Body Works. They are scented and don't give off a strong alcohol odor. I use them whenever I need to open a door that others might have touched, push a store carriage that others have touched and just to make sure once in a while when out in public. My favorite is the cucumber, smells so clean.
I am planning a cruise soon and I know that I will be upset if I can't do some trading while onboard. Peggie
