No more Ohana's for us - 3rd time NOT a charm.

You know this thread has me re-planning our entire trip. We are going in September and were going to stay at the Poly, mostly because of O'hana. The service that has been described is not acceptable to us. We will be staying at the CR now and eating elsewhere. I just don't want to risk it.

This is one of favorite places at WDW.That being said I have to agree that the change of menu bothers me a bit.I liked the pineapple better than the pudding. I loved the shrimp wontons and they got rid of them. The rice was great, not there anymore. Although they took the shrimp off the skewers they are now bringing bowlfuls of shrimp out with apps IMHO this was much better- no longer rubbery. I have to admit that when I ate there last month the server did seem to rush us a bit.It definately seems that the atmosphere has changed.

Two things come to my mind. First, didn't you notice that other people had different food on their tables? And Second, I can't believe the waiter didn't ask what you wanted for your child. My daughter is 16 and still doesn't eat anything besides the salad and potatos at Ohana's and we always ask for a bowl of mac n' cheese and they are happy to accomodate us. I beleive they have chicken fingers and a few other things for the little one's also.

I would be more upset they didn't offer the little one something different, that is just wrong.

I wonder if this "lack" of good service is because of the dining plan? IMO, it's hard for the wait staff to be motivated when they already know what they will be making on a table.

The feeling of being rushed seems to be the biggest complaint lately,,, that is easily fixed... tell your server we are feeling very rushed,,, we need a little more time. That would probably make your meal enjoyable again. You are a paying customer .... remember that! My husband and I would have no problem stating that to our server!

Not good for us! In fact it really was awful. I agree with the OP - our experiences were almost identical. I have been tempted to give it another try but my kids screamed at me - NO WAY!

between trying to keep a two year old entertained at a sit down restaurant where she wasn't eating much and the quickness the food was coming at us I truly did not notice anyone else's table. Of course I don't usually make it a habit to look at others tables when it would look "obvious". I was seated with my back facing the windows and right next to the walkway around the seating area. My main view was of one of the pilars. My husband wouldn't have notice from his location either as he is legally blind and if its not within 1-2 feet range the details get very fuzzy.

Additionally - It wasn't that busy for any explanation for them to rush us. I think the restaurant was 2/3's full at any time.

As stated before - we really chalked up our second bad visit to the service so we decided to give it a try. For my family - Ohana's just isn't worth the time or money. To be quite honest - it was the ONLY bad dining experience we had on our ENTIRE trip. Great service/food at Le Celliler, Garden Grill, Boma, The Mara, Earl of Sandwhich, Crystal Palace, CRT, etc. etc.

It does sadden me because it was one of my husbands favorite and its hard for me to find something my husband wants to make a habit out of returning (luckily Disney has blessed us with many of their good restuarants). :Pinkbounc

We have gone to Ohana our last 3 trips to the World. All three times it was terrific. Our last trip October 2005 it was great! We have ADRs for our upcoming March 2006 trip. I have to say Ohana has become our not to miss meal at the World. We love it! We love the Polynesian theme of the resort and restaurant.

We went to 'Ohana's during the week after Christmas and loved it. Yes, they did bring out dishes back to back, but that didn't make me feel rushed. To me it wasn't any different then Whispering Canyon where they bring your entire meal out in a big skillet all at once. Our server and his assistant were just great...it was just two of us and I didn't see any less attention just because we were a smaller party.

We're going back to WDW in November and we're definately going to 'Ohana at least once.

I made ADRs for our October trip and decided to cancel after they made all the menu changes. I like rice and green beans and won tons. I really don't care for cheesy potatoes or stir fry. It just seems like they took away the things that people really enjoyed, and I decided we wouldn't really care for it if we went. I have to say I have yet to see anything that makes me think it was a mistake to cancel. :worried:

I can tell you that we did this. We ate at O'hanas over Christmas and despite telling our waitress that we needed a bit of time to digest before moving on she basically said "nonesense" to us and shoved more food on our plates. She would even give us two pieces of meat when we had insisted she only give us one. It was like she was possessed and couldn't be reasoned with!! :scared:

Sept 05 - The service was horrible and rushed, the food was mediocre that night, and it left us with a bad attitude about it.

The worst, however, was the pork. The waitress actually put a RAW (still cold, completely uncooked) piece of pork on my wifes plate. Then when we pointed it out (right away, she was still there), didn't even bring her a new plate! We had to ask 3 different people for a new plate! The dishes were dirtier then one would expect (we can accept a few spots, no need to see our reflections, etc. But FOOD was still stuck to two of our plates, and we needed new silverware because some gunk was on one of the forks).

We will not be wasting our time there again.

But, that is just our experience, many have had good experiences. Just like, a lot of people do not like Tony's on main street, yet that is one of our favorites.

We will be having dinner at O'hannas on our next trip. Thanks to these boards, I know what I should receive. I will flag someone down and make sure we get what we should. The last time we were at O'hana's, I did feel a little rushed. It seemed as if our waiter was covering half the restaurant. We got all of our food at once. Then we never saw the waiter for drink refills or anything until they brought out our pinapple. Then it took forever to get a check. This time, I will make a point to flag someone down if I need to.

I have to say it was our least favorite place. The food was just not for us, the only thing that was good was the bread pudding. :(

Now I remember the raw sausages at breakfast too. It' all coming back....after the server left the initial breakfast food we didn't see her for awhile. When she did come back and ask what we would like to have more of she returned with one each of what we asked for. One waffle for each of us and one sausage for each of us! At which time she dropped off the check...talk about feeling rushed. It was this sausage that was raw inside, DH didn't even consider eating it and he'll usually eat anything! Then, as quick as she left that check there, she came back looking for the money. We made her wait a bit for it. She had come back so quickly that I felt like her shift was changing and she wanted her tip before she left...like when you're at a diner! And of course she never asked us if we wanted anything else after she dropped off one extra waffle each!

We've been fans of 'Ohana for years and still are--we visit for dinner on every single trip. The only complaint I have is that we asked for a window table and were seated one row back from the window! :) I love the new menu, and when I commented that the only part of the stir-fried veggies I liked were the snap peas, our server brought out a huge bowl of steamed snap peas for me! Service was a little slow on our last visit, but it was a busy time so I understand that. I can't wait to go back in May!

DH and I ate there on our Honeymoon in September....and it was fabulous! When we saw they were changing the menus....no shrimp (which is almost the only thing I ate...the were to die for!)....we decided NOT to do Ohana on our May trip....instead, we are doing Le Cellier twice...mmmmmm! :worship:

They still have shrimp. It's sweet and sour served in a bowl as an appetizer.

At the Polynesian, RUN away from Ohana's and TOWARDS KONA. You may not have the view or the coconut races but we had WONDERFUL food and AWESOME desserts! (We did not have children but I noted they seemed to be eating whatever was brought out from the children's menu).

We ate at Ohana's (Dinner) once and never again. Service was indifferent. Meats were unpalatable. Though I will say the other items were good and I did like the banana bread pudding.

By far the worst food we had and it scared me cause it was our first night in WDW!!!! But things improved ...

We ate at KONA's twice because the food and quieter atmosphere were wonderful. Walk out the door to the beach to watch WISHES. After a delicious dinner (and dessert!) there, you will need to walk the grounds a little anyway! :)
