With the meal deal going away, I know it will be too costly to feed my "always hungry teens" when we are at UO/IOA.
I hate this change and wondered how you all felt about it?

I hadn't heard this...where did you see the information?

They're changing over to the Universal Dining Plan on November 2nd.

There's information about it on some sites.

Simply Delicious, All Day Long

Each day of the Dining Plan that you purchase lets you enjoy one relaxing meal at a table service restaurant (entrée, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage); one fun meal at a counter service eatery (entrée and non-alcoholic beverage); plus one tasty snack and one cold or hot drink from outdoor food carts or select counter service locations. The Universal Dining Plan can be added to a Universal Parks and Resorts Vacation package.

Hmm... Some of that sounds familiar...

People have been complaining that Universal didn't have a dining plan like WDW for a long time. I guess they finally caved.

Totally makes sense to me. Day visitors will have the same problem as they do at Disney. Which really isn't all that problematic.

I just hope the food quality doesn't suffer because of this...like it has at Disney.

I guess if we start seeing free dining for onsite stays pop up, it may start to suffer. Hopefully Universal just keeps putting up new rides to bring in the crowds instead of offering free dining and next gen.

does anyone see the problem..........
not enough restaurants to accommodate these people!!!!

By the price of the dining plan, I don't think it is going to be attracting new people into the parks. People still have to eat whether they have the dining plan or not.

for what i eat in the parks, the new dining plan would not work for me.

i don't spend that much in the parks many of the days.
i use my ap/aaa cards for food discounts.
it is not much-10%, but adds up.

i do meals in the parks, city walk and the hotels.

Just curious.... right now you can buy the dining plan with a package... after nov 2nd, would you be able to buy it without any package since the meal deal will be gone???

From Orlando Informer, Here's the basics on it:
As of November 2 the traditional "Universal Meal Deal" will be discontinued and replaced by what the resort is calling their new "Universal Dining Plan - Quick Service". Not only is the name of the new program a mouthful, it will also swap unlimited quick-service meals for a point system. That's the bad news. The good news is that guests will be able to use the new UDP-QS at almost all quick-service restaurants and food & beverage carts (versus the classic Meal Deal's three restaurants per park). That's all the details we have at the moment.

I think it's going to be interesting to see the price and what they offer this. Since I'm planning to go in early January, We should know by then.

That's the normal meal deal...I don't think that is the new one that is coming.

So Universal is still selling these packages and you do not have to pick a date when you buy them. So in theory, you could prepurchase your unlimited meal deals for as many days as you want and redeem them when you want. Nowhere on the site does it say anything about an expiration date.

So I can buy 4 days now, use 2 in December and 2 in August when I go???

Never cared for the meal deal since I didnt really like the restaurants on it.The dining plan wont work for us since we mainly eat at the resorts and those restaurants arent on it.
