No more free Valet parking ...

I do hope this perk remains, but since I always stay on points it wouldn't matter much to me personally.

I do think there needs to be an overhaul on all parking rules, but that's for a different thread... ;)

Regardless of where you stay means exactly that. I was at the All-Stars a few years ago and flashed my DVC member card for the free valet.

I agree with the comments re: not all CMs have good information.

We can really speculate this one out of the park (no pun intended. Oh wait. Maybe I did intend it). I wonder if the manager is concerned that the free parking to DVC members is being abused or not enforced? Not intending to imply that it is being taken away - but concerned maybe that the CMs aren't checking enough?

Case in point - when we stayed at BCV last Oct, I was never asked for my DVC ID not did I have to prove I was staying on points. All I ever did was to say I was a DVC member. All it would take is for a few other guests to start overhearing that, and over time, more and more guests just say DVC member! If the CMs aren't enforcing it, then it gets out of hand fast.

Voila! Lost revenue.

So that's my take on it.

i'm curious as to how they'd know you were staying points or cash? i could be staying at vwl on an ap rate, not pts.

i'm certainly not carrying around my reservation

If you are staying on points, the valet will know by your parking permit it will say "member parking permit" rather than "guest parking permit".

If you're not staying on points, you would have to show your member card, as per the website.

i just want to add, when we stay at the bcv the first few days we use the free valet parking, but after that it is just as easy to park your own car, the parking is so close to the villas and we always found that the valet at the bcv are in no hurry to bring your car , like the other dvc resorts and othe disney resorts. one time we actually stood there next to the valet cm that had our keys in his hands waiting for another car to pull in so he could park that car and bring our car up, so he didnt have to walk to the valet parking lot, my whole family could have walk faster to the valet parking lot to get our car and back by the time brought up our car. needless to say he didnt get much of a tip. we see valet cm's running to the valet parking lot to bring up cars if there are no cars to park. hmmmm, that is why we end up parking our owns cars at the bcv.

That's the spirit!! Take it out on the poor guy earning minimum wage.

The policy is still the same on the member site.

Disney Vacation Club Members are not charged for valet parking at Disney's Beach Club Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Resort or Disney's Wilderness Lodge, regardless of where you're staying. You must present your Disney Vacation Club Member card or Walt Disney World Resort ID with your "DVC Member" designation on it when leaving your vehicle to be parked

Of course, the site isn't known for speedy updates. Still, I would wait for official word on this one.

While I don't totally agree with this sentiment the idea of stiffing the valets would be like reducing your tip in a resteraunt if they raised the prices.

I would never pay $11.00 to have my car parked, ( $7.00 fee, $2 x 2 tips) but I have no problem paying $4.00. In the long run the valets are the ones who will suffer, but it's not my fault. If I chose not to valet park or someone else decides to lower their standard tip of course the valet will suffer, but the blame lies with Disney, not me.

I've never used valet parking, so I'm more than willing to take the word of those with more experience on this, but if the rule is that you don'y have to be staying on points anywhere in the DVC system to get free valet parking then I'm amazed that it has lasted this long........staying at Port Orleans come on in, staying at HoidayInn come on in, staying at Marriot come on in, staying at Aunt Martha's in Clearwater come on in, Florida resident in town for the day come on in......I can't think of one other ammenity offered at DVC where your welcome to use it if your not staying on points....you certainly couldn't do that with the pool or workout facilities. Again, having never used it, I'm in no positon to judge wheather the system is working or not, this is really just an observation and midmoring ramble.

Dining Discounts don't require you to be staying on points. Some perks are simply tied to being a member, others to staying on points.

..... The reason you are chosing to valet park in the first place. Why would you valet park at GF ? To walk around the pool ? Or to drop $150.00 in a resteraunt ? Disney is counting on you to visit these up-scale resorts and to spend $$$$. If free valet parking is all it costs to lure you in,then it's money well lost.

Excellent point.....as a I stated before, these observations are coming from someone who has never valet parked, so I am clearly wading into the deep end when it would be more advisable to twinkle my toes from the pools edge:D

This is true. (however, in my defense, I never said other ammenities didn't exist, just that I couldn't think of any:jester: )

OK...now that I have been straightened out on this whole valet parking thing, I guess I'll move on to another thread.:D

Whether I tip less, or don't valet at all - the little guy loses. Raising prices = less business.......less opp for tips (restaurant, valet parking, bell hops, you name it). Its supply and demand folks.

Thanks.

Disney does not give away anything for free...."FREE" valet parking was "free" because we are already paying for it out of our dues....if indeed they do reduce this benefit from what it has been you can be sure I will be asking for how much they are planning to reduce our dues accordingly......

I think many here are missing the main gist of the post.
The original poster said it wasn't free if not staying on points. In other words, it is still free if staying on points.

I agree that this benefit is paid for through dues, and since dues are tied to our points, then it would indeed make sense to have free valet parking only when staying on points.
