NO MORE Dining Plan for us..my reasons

Just got back from an eight day stay at BWV that started on Saturday 2/16. Over the course of it we ate seven TS and four CS meals (yes, we made heavy use of our villa kitchen, using the outside meals as cherry-picked treats). Based on my analysis last night or the receipts for each, I wouldn't have come out ahead using the DP or the DDE.

We never have done the DDP but we always do DDE even with the 18% tip added on it still saves you money in the lon run. I would of tipped 20% normally.

Thanks to disney I save 2%. Plus being drinkers the DDE is the only way to go

Savings with the DDE are still 20% off the cost of the food. And since you use to tip 20% and will now be charged only 18% for the tip, your savings will be greater than before the automatic gratuity was added.

DDE and DDP or DxDDP can be combined BTW.

DDE is still only available to Florida residents and people with annual passes, correct? Just wishful thinking that I could get one....pixiedust:

Last year I would add DDP to a two-night DVC stay, use the TS credits for a signature restaurant (say..Artist Point, the last one I did like this) and eat CS for the rest of the (short) trip. The cost was about $80 for both nights for the dining plan.

I'd go to Artist Point, order the buffalo (on the December menu that sucker cost more than $40) plus an appetizer and dessert, and buy some wine with DDE. 18% tip was included, now that was worth it. The Artist Point dinner alone almost covered the entire cost for the DDP for the two nights. And I still had 2 CS meals and 2 snacks to use.

Now, with the removal of the tip and appetizer from the basic plan, I am better off just using my DDE. I'd still order expensive entrees but I might leave off the appetizer or the dessert to keep the cost down. Or, I can make a meal out of a couple of appetizers. Or, I can eat in a resort lounge that serves appetizers (I love the flatbread at Territory Lounge; if I was on DDP that really wasn't an option since you can't use it there, and if you did, it wouldn't add up to value). I generally don't eat breakfast at all (I am a studio person and have just a microwave in the room, no kitchen).

I don't think that's a terrible thing, it's just what is. DDP was a steal for awhile, but now it isn't. I can get better value using DDE and ordering what I want from the menu.
