No more D23 in 18 months?

I suspect that D23 is a money losing venture and will by the wayside in favor of a reward or loyalty program for returning guests.

...for what amounts to the old magic kingdom club...

They did a Disneyland Off the Map tour where guests got to eat at Club 33? They did huge Expo events with celebrities? As well as movie premier events and more?

if it went away, nobody should weep.

I'd be sad to see it go.

...the mickey monitor and the vacation club quarterlies do just as much or more to get the juices flowing...

Obviously that's just your opinion, but neither of those little newsletters offer anything in comparison to what the magazine alone offers.

and they don't actually charge me more for what i already pay a lot to have to get those things anyway.

This is probably the only comment you said that I somewhat agree with. Although many D23 events you can't just purchase as someone off the street... they are events set up specifically for members with activities you can't buy a ticket for. Perfect example is "Star Tours: Final Flight" event.

Like you said these are all opinions. You are as welcomed with yours as I am mine.

I just think that the number of events on the West Coast far outnumber the ones on the East Coast. It just not a value to me. The airflight from where I am from to California is the same as flying overseas. So the Expo is out of the question.
The non ticketed events as you put it seem few and far between. I know they can't do one every week but still.

Some consider D23 a great value, that's good. I personally do not.

Thank you...that pretty much sums it up for me too...

I think I got a little "Disneyland venom" on this one...which is ok...but realize that if TWDC was going to do this paid club concept...and make it Anaheim-centric...then it was going to fail.

You don't do anything successful in this country by walling off the eastern half of it.

I apologize if that had any venom in it. That wasn't intended. I hope to visit Disneyland someday and experience the 1st Disney park. The airlines in my area just feel that they can charge a very high price because we don't have a lot of choice. And it is a part of the reason why I can't consider the Expo a good cost.

Again I apologize.

It's ok...you're good...i wasn't referring to you :cool2:

Uh huh...and we're any of those free?
If the answer is "no"...then the end of D23 won't signal the end of any of those events. If people will pay...they will stay. Disney 101

As has also been raised - the whole concept seems to have really ended up catering to the hard core AP crowd type at Disneyland. And i have no problem with that...
But disney is not going to continue anything that doesn't draw the East Coast, Canada, some of the European market into play. There's not enough money in it.

Of course the D23 magazine is nicer...but to the point of being worth the 75 bucks annually - no not really.
And if they do can it - its probably for the more obvious reason: their analysis is finding that it isn't moving product.
Yeah...its a dead horse...unfortunately the horse's name was "Stone Cold Truth".
Such is Disney.

but if the programs proved that "popular" (aka high profit yield to them)...then they'll continue.
The ones that weren't - won't go on anyway. They won't keep a program simply because of a $75 membership fee...it has to be high yield on its own.

Personally, I love D23. We are on the west coast and have gone to tons of events. To each their own.

What I don't understand is how people who are not in it can have an opinion on whether it should continue or not. If it doesn't concern you, why hate it so? I don't see any value in fat-free ice cream, but I don't want it wiped from the planet so others can't eat it. :confused3 Just curious why it's mere existence makes non-members so angry. If you don't like it, don't join, end of story. Disney will happily offer you plenty of other things to spend your money on. :earsboy:

I don't think its really "hate" per se...

I think its all pretty much been "take it or leave it discussion"

I had it when it came out...gave it its chance...and let it go after it was turned off by sales pitches that i already have to endure constantly (DVC being a big offender) and its focus on the disneyland area that isn't logistically very feasible for me to "get into it"...

But from my perspective...the reason that they have killed it...IF they have killed it...was because it didn't cast the net wide enough.
Alot of the "oh no" sentiments seem to be from the disneyland crowd, and from a business standpoint - that's not going to be enough for them.
