I usually buy my Diet Coke at Costco because they have the best price, unless there is a loss leader at the grocery stores. Lately there have been no big sales at the grocery stores and last week there was a sign in Costco that said, because they were not able to be competitive, they have stopped carrying Coca Cola products. I bought Pepsi instead. Costco is a HUGE retailer. What is Coke thinking if they aren't going to lower their prices for Costco? Is this a bad move? I can drink diet Pepsi. It isn't my favorite but it works.

Interesting that have continued serving it in the fountain at the snack bar. If Coke wouldn't negotiate I would have pulled them out completely.

Everyone I know prefers Pepsi products - or A&W root beer.. Not sure why because I'm not a soda drinker myself..:santa:

DH told me about this a while ago. He is a Pepsi drinker though.
I am the diet Coke drinker. I don't like Pepsi, so I will be buying my Coke elsewhere.

I am a die hard Diet Coker. I saw the sign at Costco and was disappointed. Same time I noticed the sales for the buy 3 ones at the stores were disappearing as well. I was saddened to see that Coke is taking this time to not offer incentives. our local grocery would have pepsi on sale one week- coke the next.
Even target was only saling Pepsi lately. Although just this week I noticed DC. So maybe it's changing??
While I belive Pepsi is VILE. I may be forced to swich. I can't afford $4 a case(well I don't want to pay $4 a case) Maybe it's time to kick the caffeine habit.

I think Coke is biting it's own behind with this one at this time. I emailed the company to let them know how I think it stinks.

$4 a case is a great price. I haven't seen it that low for a while.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but that's because you're a Yankee. ;)

The Coke/Pepsi split is very largely a geographic one. The majority of people in the South prefer Coke (based in Atlanta), while folks above the Line mostly prefer Pepsi (based in Purchase, NY), and the West tends to split sort of by state. Every once in a while a major nationwide restaurant chain will switch from one to the other because of a price dispute, but regional customer preference usually wins out over time.

My lower-midwestern office sells Pepsi in the machines, so I keep a case of Coke under my desk. We have a lot of Asian personnel here, and while they will drink Coke sometimes, most of them won't touch Pepsi. Any time there is a meeting with bottled drinks supplied, Coke is by far the most popular, but the vending contract stays as it is because they get a better price from Pepsi.

:confused3 I thought it was the other way around. We can only get Pepsi when we go down south. Coke is definately the Tri State area winner.

Thats a bummer! So they still sell it at the soda fountain?

That's really interesting! :) I remember my DD complaining about not being able to get Pepsi when we were in Disney.. Either contractual - or what you have mentioned here.. Does the fact that I don't drink soda at all have anything to do with me being a Yankee as well? LOL.. Carbonation kills me - although I suppose if I really wanted to drink it I could do that pouring it back and forth between two glasses 8 times to get the carbonation out..
It's easier to just drink coffee, milk, and Boost.. :thumbsup2

Don't I wish we could find it for $4 bucks a case. You are hitting the jackpot around here if you can find it for under $5. And then it is usually tied into some other type of promo - Have to buy in lots of 3 or more or you have to spend an additional $25.00 to get that price.

Heck, even a case of Faygo soda, even Sams, is more than $4 bucks around here.

Ditto. I am a Diet Coke Fiend. I drink almost nothing but Diet Coke. Luckily my husband works for Coca-Cola.........

I'm a Pepsi fan and I just hate that hardly any food services places carry Pepsi products. It sucks on my Disney trips. I mean, I don't mind Coke but it just has a heavier taste to me, where Pepsi is more crisp. And, yuck, that Dasani water. Now that stuff is vile.

Depends on where in the South. :) Pepsi originated in New Bern, NC. Lots of die-hard Pepsi people around here.

Personally, I prefer Dr. Pepper. Especially Caffiene free Dr. pepper, which Ican't find in NC, but they carry in VA. :confused3

We have noticed that there are more restraunts carrying Pepsi around here. When ever we eat at a place that serves Coke, if they don't have Cherry Coke, then the 2nd selection is Dr. Pepper/Mr. Pipp. If that's not carried, then it's water for me.

I just can't do Coke. And I even use to work for the Coke botteling co, when we were stationed down in AL.

Not to make you jealous but I can score them 2 for $5 sometimes at Hess stations!

I'm born and bred in the Chicago suburbs and everyone that I know prefers Coke. I'm so bad that if a restaurant serves Pepsi products, I order water with lemon and add some sugar to make my own lemon-shake up! :lmao:

Edited to add... Meijer has 12 packs of Coke on sale right now for $2.48

Yeah, origination counts -- Dr. Pepper is ALWAYS available at restaurants in Texas if they know what is good for them. There are exceptions to every rule, but the pattern holds true for the majority of communities in the eastern U.S.

In Disney's case, it's a contract thing. They have a huge sponsorship deal with Coke. I've been told that it is set up VERY oddly, in that the drink syrups themselves are supposedly supplied to WDW at no charge, but that Disney must pay Coke a royalty for every cup that is sold on property, which is why your resort or water park refillable mug has an itty-bitty Coke logo on it. (I don't have proof of the cup thing, but it makes a certain amount of economic sense. Flavor syrup is a VERY cheap commodity, so it would be easy to give it away if you are guaranteed a large volume of sales in some other way.)

And I can't stomach the taste of Pepsi. But they are still offering deals on Coke products down here. Not only does Publix still have deals, but often I can find 4/$12 at CVS or Walgreens. I can't live without my daily Coke!:)
