No more CC5k (even DIY going away)?

I’m wondering, what if someone sued DCL for a death or injury and made the discontinuation of the event part of their lawsuit?
This is an interesting theory. I mean, when I run a 5k (or any kind of event) back home, I have to sign a separate waiver for participation. When we went to do parasailing, we had to sign a waiver. When we rented bikes from the bike rental hut, we signed a waiver. But I don't recall signing anything for the CC5k.

Couldn't they have just added a waiver?

You signed up in advance upon boarding, like for an excursion. Runners met the morning of and exited the ship together, like for an excursion, and began the run together. Some staffers were posted at the finish line to hand out medals and take pictures of you with your medal.

Yeah, easily manageable for DCL. Just like the future cruise desk, and paper navigators, and the officers' pin trading, all things that haven't returned. Little things that made cruising DCL a special experience, but that are easily cut in a corporate boardroom.
Those kind of super minor decisions are not discussed in the boardroom

Tim Tracker tried it last week and was told that they were redesigning the medals and were temporarily out.
I’m hoping this is the case and it’s back in January (on the 4 night the week after the $$$ marathon weekend add on)

Such a well loved event, especially for CC. More people talked about the run on this board then any adventures on the island. I’m wondering, what if someone sued DCL for a death or injury and made the discontinuation of the event part of their lawsuit?
This is not likely unless the the cause of the death or injury was something that could not have been addressed by less drastic measures than simply canceling the event. And if it were, it is likely we would know what the cause was because there would have been multiple deaths or injuries.

While I don't think it was canceled for this reason, if it was simply adding waiver would likely not have been enough. Waiver, while broad in their language, do not protect companies from all potential liability.

If a non disclosure was signed and agreement was made to discontinue the event for safety was agreed. Well then we’ll never know. And it could be a snake bite or a broken wrist or ??? I’m just saying we can’t rule it out. But the runs did just sort of quietly go away for DCL.

Well... what a darn shame. Sure you can run it anytime, but the organized event was a blast. I have run it maybe 4 times? Always met some really great people to run with that became friends. I wish they would keep it/bring it back to what it was.

Not likely. Any of those things could happen on the island regardless of running a 5k. I'm no attorney, but Disney doesn't seem any more exposed with or without the 5k. It's more likely staffing and supply chain issues.

IF there had been an incident and a suit was filed, that would still be public knowledge. The outcome could be sealed if settled with an agreement, but that doesn't erase documented court filings.

I think it initially went DIY due to covid. Whether or not it returns (seems to be conflicting info given), would more likely be due to staffing or timing or supplies. Mundane reasons.

I remember signing something when it was the organized meet on the ship, go over the course, and walk off the ship together 5k. Last time we did that iteration it was 2018. Then we did it in February 2020 and it was the times of the Sign up as an ”excursion“ where it would “sell out,” but you could still walk up to a table on the island and sign something and participate.
