Well I think this is awful. http://www.wdwforgrownups.com/articles/several-walt-disney-world-resort-hotels-will-no-longer-offer-boat-rentals-guests Personally, I find renting a boat on the river much more peaceful than on Bay Lake or the Lagoon. It's a shame!
saw this as well. I've heard that the company that does the boat rentals had something to do with it but I don't know for sure. I'm sure that it also has to do with Disney springs and all the water construction they are doing there.

I always found it hard to believe that they would let people with no boating experience rent small craft in an area with so much boat traffic and some corners with short visibility.

I agree but I thought is was nice that you could take a boat all the way to DTD. It is what it is I never got to do it but have heard from people who have and they liked it.

Where I live we need boating licences, so it shocked me that they would rent boats to any guests. Even Castaway Cay requires boating licences to rent their boats. Can we still rent non-powered watercraft? My husband and I were really looking forward to a quiet evening on a paddle boat or kayak during our trip later this year.

It was a money loser. We rented a boat in January and at POR and the CM told us it was going away soon. The company that had the contract had to keep all these boats in great shape and upkept and they sat their unused. The CM told me that when the contract was renewed they opted out of these areas.

That makes sense I feel like the deluxe resorts on the the seven seas or bay lake get more use than the ones here.
