How about first come, first served ??????????????????????

Well, I dont think this will happen any time soon....I personally like the ADR system...Who wants to wait with a little flashing buzzer for 3 hours waiting for a table while you could be out at the parks?

I loved having ADR's when we were there on the dining plan in August. Our longest wait for a table was 15 minutes at LeCellier. We had an early dinner (about 5:00 or so) and saw at least 10 people trying to get in and were turned away.

I would have hated wasting that kind of time and energy on meals when it could be done in advance in the comfort of my home.

How can you decide what you want to eat 10 months from now ???

How do you know what park you want to visit on a particular day ???

This is my vacation, not a scripted program !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not that hard.I look at trip advisor and plan to go to one of the least crowded parks, then I decide where to eat. Occasionally,I cancel a meal, but generally I keep my ADR"S...I generally only make them for one meal a day

Well, there is no rule that you cannot make ADRs and then cancel them if you decide to do something else. You can choose to be as flexible as you want to be. But it is a little unrealistic to think that you can go on any vacation without planning a little bit, whether it be at WDW or anywhere else... ;)

What??!!! No laminated schedule?!
:teeth:

The dining plan has made the sit-down restaurants more popular. If you want to eat at one, you need an ADR. We live here and like to just pop over to WDW for dinner sometimes. It's almost impossible now without a reservation.

I think 6 months is a little too much. 90 or 120 days is enough lead time.

I agree with you. I also see the other side too. The lines would unfortunatly be out the door. I am sure a good business mind could come up with some sort of plan though. Maybe leave a small percentage of tables open for those of us that get stressed out trying to figure out what we might want to eat in June? I dunno... :confused3

Except the Crystal Palace breakfast, which I had to guarentee on my cc..that one has to have 48 hour advance notice. :)

So because you don't want to plan, I should have to stand around in a first come first served line? We don't have another WDW trip until October 2007, but I could do a pretty good job sketching out reservations we'd be content with today. It isn't hard, my husband likes steak, so we pick a few places where he can get steak. We pick one signature place each trip. At least one new spot. An old favorite or two. A character meal.

Do you mean Cinderella's breakfast? Crystal Palace does not require a cc guarantee.

You're not forced to make any ADRs at 180 days, 90 days, or 30 days for that matter. The booking window, IMHO, is to allow those that are planning that far in advance to have the option.

Disney recommends reservations for sit down restaurants because it is a common practice for many vacationers to plan what park they will go to on each day and make reservations.

It's not as difficult as it seems to pick a restaurant in advance...let's take MK for example: if your party has different tastes, try a buffet like the Crystal Palace. If they like "homestyle" cooking, try Liberty Tree Tavern. For a lighter meal, the Plaza Restaurant for soups and salads. Steaks and heartier meals: Cinderella's Royal Table (I know the price is going up, not opening that can of works here.) For Italian food, Tony's Town Square. Those are the only table service restaurants in the park, all others are counter service so no reservations required.

The only park that is really difficult to nail down in advance is Epcot, since there are so many different options, but still narrowing it down is a start. If you can't decide until the day of, be flexible and try a late lunch or dinner and it's not as difficult to be seated as a walk up at most restaurants.

Otherwise, it doesn't matter what park you are visiting because the resort restaurants don't require admission.

Yes, Crystal Palace now does require a credit card guarantee. All of the character meals now require credit card guarantee. There is a 48 hr cancellation policy and the no show fee is 10.00 per person.

I made a ressie for Chef Mickey's and did not need to leave a CC number...

NO thanks. Quite happy with things as they are. Not remotely excited about standing in a line waiting to get into a "signaure" restaurant.
Though I will agree that 180 days is a bit far out...

I like the ability to be able to plan a specific time to eat but it has gotten to the point that if you don't have ADR's you are getting turned away at many of the restaurants. I have a problem with this. There are times when you want to go somewhere but can't because they are not allowing walk ups.

Ok...Iam in a mild panic now. :scared1:

Can anyone please confirm that Character meals do NOT require a Credit card deposit??

Nearly all of my ADR's are going to be character meals!!!
