No money for Disney ?!!

My queston is... How come I am the ONLY one who ever has enough money for a Disney trip? I get so frustrated at my family and my girlfriend.
Maybe its my priority but it isnt a priority for others. It doesnt matter how much money I have, I ALWAYS seem to be able to save for my next trip to WDW. Its like we take a trip to Disney 2 years in a row then some how we have to skip a year because... "I dont know if I have money for a Disney trip this year??""

bla bla bla... It makes me mad.. and I can always tell its coming, I'll talk the trip up and I get no feedback, just silence. its like.. HELLO, Im talking about our next WDW vacation.. ya know Expedition Everest is opening 2006... They just ignore me...

Excuses, excuses... I have no children, my g/f has no children, and my Mom's children are grown.. so how is it they dont have money? I automatically take my incme tax money and it goes right towards my vacation.

{shrug} It sure does sound like you have different priorities than your mom and your girlfriend. Perhaps they have other responsibilities or expenses. Perhaps they just don't love Disney as much as you do. I don't have any advise for you, other than you need to listen ... really listen ... to them and hear when they say they can't make the annual trek to WDW. Also, listen to the silence which means they don't want to hurt your feelings with their own feelings.

It's hard to be a frequent poster and reader here. There are so many people who go once or twice a year. Those who visit multiple parks in one year. Those who will only stay on the Concierge floor at the GF because the view of the castle from their room cannot be beat. It's easy to get swept into the whole Disney DIS feeding frenzy. However, those people are really the minority. The vast majority of people don't go more than just once. The vast majority have never been to Disneyland: California, Tokyo, Paris or Hong Kong. The vast majority stay *gasp* off-site when they visit WDW.

There is an advantage to skipping a year or two between trips. You can save that vacation money and buy into the ultimate for any Disney fan: DVC .

I almost hate to mention my latest trip around the office or my family because I know what they're thinking. And I have a few thoughts of my own...
Yes, I know that you just spent $9000 on new windows. Congratulations. I will now go and spend my $1500 on WDW with my son while I still can, thank you very much.

And my husband's the worst. He just doesn't get it. Never will. He says, "but you've been; why do you need to go back?" I remind him that the $3000 bicycle he just bought could have bought me 30 days at the Pop Century! Now that's what I'm talkin' bout!

Yeah,, see its funny.... Today I received a letter in the mail regarding a retirement plan I was invested in through my former employee. It stated that I had money that I was entiled to get from a profit sharing plan. It wasnt LOTS of money, but enough to plan a nice Disney trip plus some extra spending money. Of course the first thing I want to do is spend it on a Disney trip.. Everyone looks at me like Im crazy. I guess they see it as waste of money.
I am selfish when it comes to my WDW vacations. I know I should be a little more open minded with other peoples feelings.

I should also consider myself lucky to be able to go once a year or even once every other. Its true I read about the people who just came back and have another trip planned within 90 days.. I should not envy those. I should be thankful for what I have, right>?

I go through withdrawls! I cant help it I'm border line insane if I dont have a trip planned. I need help.. maybe a 12 step plan?

The way I see those windfalls is...in 10 years my son will not want to go across the street with me, much less on a vacation, so I better make the most of these years while I can. I know that his college will be taken care of. My retirement is looking OK. We're good. Not welathy. Just good. I can swing a little spending money every now and then; and I want to swing it over to Disney.
Please don't get me wrong. I would never suggest going to WDW instead of paying your electric bill for 6 months. I'm just saying that if I find myself with the time and money, I want to live it up. And to me WDW is living it up. Even planning is a hoot!

I think different things are important to different people. You are judging them in the same way they judge you. I LOVE Disney World. However, I also want to see the whole world and I want to have a nice house, car, clothing. So, I have to spread it around alittle.

This is a critically wise point. We each have our own priorities. Reasonable people disagree about what such priorities should be, and that's okay.

What you need to do is plan a solo trip for the years that they do not want to go!! Chose a great time of the year, like when the Food and Wine Festival is on at EPCOT and when the weather is beautiful (like the end of Oct) then start planning, put yourself out there on these boards (there is an adult/solo section) you can make yourself as busy as you want to down here. There is almost always someone that is a passholder that would love to spend the day or a meal with you..........I think once your family realizes that no matter what you are going..........if they don't have the money or don't want to save for it...........You are going!!! Don't let them make you feel bad........as the slogan says "Just do it!" Perhaps there are things that they enjoy more than you, let them do that. Don't deprive yourself of something you enjoy so much simply because you have to do it solo, once today is gone it is gone, and as long as you aren't hurting someone do what you enjoy!
