We are trying to plan a small trip for my birthday Feb 5 - Feb 10 and everytime I check a value or moderate, it shows no availability. Is this a bad time to go?

I think this is when the National Cheerleading Championships are going on. That would account for the crowds at the values especially the All Stars.
CBR is also an option for them on their package. I can't imagine why the others would be so full though. Try the Swan or Dolphin. They are very nice for a similar price to mods, and they offer discounts for teachers, nurses, and government employees.

My Wife is a teacher and I"m a gov't employee. What's the best way to find out about discounts?

Thanks

Call 1-888-828-8850 and ask if there are any teacher/gov. rates available for your dates.

Having been there during the competitions, there aren't that many cheerleaders.

I think the real reason is (a) that's the end of Value season, before Peak season starts, and (b) with day-by-day rates, bargain hungers have to *end* their trips by the 10th, whereas in years past they could merely *check in* by the 10th.

Together, this bunches up the bargain-hunters in that last full week of Value season. There are still plent of Mods and Values for President's Week when rates are in Peak season, but I'll guarantee you the parks will be busier then!

Good point and this has always been my theory too. Also the CM holiday room discount is most likely coming to an end too, so lots of them and their families taking advantage of this well deserved perk. We have always found the week before Prez weekend to be busy because of the change of rates and everyone wanting to take advantage of value seaon.

I saw on another site that Disney only allows so many rooms booked on line so maybe you could call them directly or even call AAA. I am not sure if this is true or not but it is worth checking it out.

Another question - have you checked availability at the resorts for each individual day of your trip? We're traveling to the World over the MLK long weekend and couldn't find availability at any one resort for our 5 night stay. So, we're spending three nights at one resort, then moving to another for the last two nights.

Good luck!
Kristen

I have had this happen to me and when I called, there were rooms available.

Mardi Gras-half of south Louisiana goes to WDW during the MG break.
Try Expedia or Travelocity because they sometimes have rooms when the WDW shows no availability.

My husband has a convention at WDW during the 6th through the 9th Some of the employee stay at CSR where the convention is and the rest of us are at AKL His company overbooks becuase they do not have the exact head count yet so keep trying and soon they may free up some rooms I know this happened last year Plus many over stay the convention and they keep rooms res for that as well

we had no crowds last year at this time except during EMH at AK

Thanks everyone for all of the info of the cheerleaders and breaks and such. I was wondering what was going on too. I put in Feb 7-11 and the cheapest thing available was the Fort Wilderness cabins at $270 a night. I noticed that that is when the room codes end right now, so I was thinking that was the problem. Looks like there is lots of stuff going on at that time.

I would definitely try calling them. I was looking up dates at the WL for October yesterday afternoon, and was getting messages that nothing was available for most of the month of October. I tried and was getting the same message for moderate resorts as well. I went online later last night and found rooms for WL, and the moderates for the same weeks. They may be having a problem with their online site.

I'm a regular February visitor. I've been during P-Week, Mardi Gras, and "regular" February weeks. Only P-Week generates significant crowds in my experience. The Mardi Gras folks all dress up in their purple, green, and gold, so you notice them, but they don't seem to contribute to unusual crowds in the parks.

Another thing to keep in mind: in FY07, WDW had a 90% occupancy rate at their resorts, which is just phenomenal---the industry average is in the 60s. That means that most resorts are sold out most of the time. It's getting to the point where I would not ever expect to book a resort last minute, except in very unusual circumstances.
