Genevieve called today from BaggageYUL! :cool1:

I was soooo excited - YAY! They found our bags!...not! :earboy2:

(For those of you that have been following our little drama:
*January 23rd...First time with checked suitcases, usually carry ons..
*Arrive MCO, no bags
*Fast forward to today...still no bags and lots of frustration/venting later...;)
Did get a nice followup from Bobbie's office, though;) )

They're "clearing files on longterm customers" today. She just called to check to make sure we haven't received our missing luggage.

Uh...no.

Great - she's going to apply compensation.
Excellent - How much?

Oh...that still has to be determined...
OK...will you still look for our bags?
Well, if a match turns up in the system, we'll forward them to you.
*I'm reading "no" in this*

IF I bring ALL documentation to Pearson Baggage Office, I can look for it myself....hmmmm

I'm thinking a trip to TO is in the works!!LOL

UPDATE!!!
Got a checkaroonie for compensation! Just enough to pay for flights for next year;)...so yep, today, I love Air Canada;)
...and we sold our Jeep:)..totally OT, I'm happy;)..but I still want my stuff!LOL

Sooooo...who's up for a Pearson DisMeet?? As soon as I can find a cheapie fare, I'm coming to look:) The general consensus is that -if it wasn't stolen - it's sitting there. So if you see any inexpensive flights from YHZ to YYZ any time in the next month, please let me know!

:sunny:

Unbelievable, MaryBeth! I guess it's a good thing that they still know who you are! Here's hoping the compensation comes through quickly ... and in very large amounts of $$$ :teeth: Can they build in some compensation for "mental pain and anguish" ??? 'Cause you sure do deserve it!

MaryLiz

Well if you do come to TO, we can get together for a DISMeet!

So All won't be lost!LOL

Let's hope they come thru with a Great Compensation Package!

Scratch

I guess it could have been worse.
You could have been flying Jets Gone ;)

Good luck...

Cheers,
Grumbo

Marybeth,
It was several years ago (around 200), but DH and I arrived in the Dominican without DH's suitcase. Upon departing the DR (10 days later), his luggage arrived at the DR airport.

We received no compensation from the travel insurance company (we had comprehensive coverage) but did from the airline (Air Transat I think). Obviously your situation is much worse then ours, but make sure that you try to get compensation from both the airline and travel insurance company. We were told that if the suitcase was truly lost we would have also received approx. $800 Cdn from the travel insurance company. As it was I think we received somewhere between $200-$400 (sorry I can't remember exact amount) for DH since he had to go out and buy new clothes etc. in the DR.

Good luck and please let us know how it all works out for you.

Suzy V.

I would go and look for the bags. Twice in the last few months friends have lost bags and other neighbours have found them sitting while coming in on their flights from other destinations. One set and I mean set of surfboards was "lost" on a flight from Costa Rica over New Years to Toronto . A boy in the neighbourhood spotted them and took them (3) home for the other family when he was coming in from Hawaii! It is hard to miss 3 big surfboard bags clearly marked. Another friend sent her son home early from a ski trip out west and went on to Hawaii at Christmas. Of course his skis were lost and the parents found them sitting on the way from Hawaii just standing in the corner and brought them home! Again in Toronto.

Go look. I'd bet money they are there!

Rebecca

Marybeth,

I am sorry to hear that you still havent resolved this problem. As I recall you thought compensation was coming at the Moncton DISmeet.

Hope something works out! Here's some pixie dust from us to your family! :wizard: :wizard:

LOL!!
Which is why I think I'm going to grab a cheapie flight to YYZ and go look...AFTER Air Canada sends a great big checkaroonie in the mail pirate:

Suzy, we called VISA about our baggage ins through them...they would compensate up to $500 spent in the first 5 days only. Wish we had read the fine print;) I'm glad you got DH's luggage back though:)

Which airport hotel for a DisMeet, Scratch and maryliz??!!;)

Pooksma, want to come to? I know Grumbo can't make it...his wife is at Costc..nah, can't do it;)

Sorry they haven't turned up yet. Back long ago when I was a child we flew to Toronto from Halifax to visit my grandparents with our dog. Everything was fine for the flight there but coming back to Halifax it was a nightmare. The only thing that arrived was our dog (thankfully), none of the luggage. The funniest thing was that there was luggage at the Halifax airport just none for anyone that was in the airport. I'm sure they put all of the luggage that day on wrong planes. Eventually we did get all of our luggage back and they delivered it to our house but again that was a while ago.

Another interesting lost luggage story -- on a school trip to Spain one girl's luggage got lost on the first day - how I don't know since all of our luggage was loaded onto a separate baggage cart but.... Anyway, we travelled around for 2 weeks and her luggage didn't turn up. We ended the trip in Madrid and some of us went to the lost luggage department to see if it had turned up -- nope but somebody was missing a side of beef. :rotfl: In the lost luggage room there was a tagged side of beef hanging there. Strange.

Her luggage did turn up months later having travelled thousands of miles -- she could tell my the tags that were left on it.

Hopefully you get your luggage back - be sure to claim air miles for them too!

Well I will be travelling in May, could take a quick looksy when we get back!

Oh yeah, this trip will be thru WestJet so I don't know if the Lost Luggage will be in the same area.

Heck, we could meet inside the airport! Lots of places to sit and have a coffee!LOL

We'll set up by the AC counter with a sign so they know where to drop off the luggage, if they find it!

Scratch

Are you really coming to Toronto to look for your bags? After so many months, you'd think that the airline would just give you compensation already  but what do I know :goodvibes :rotfl:

I hope everything works out Mary-Beth :)

Eeew!:crazy2:
Can't you see it at Customs:
Agent:"Anything to declare?"
PAX:*Hefting up the beef* "Steak and two sides...":teeth:

Apparently, AC has 100 days to locate your bags - after you submit your baggage declaration form - and if they can't find it by then, they will compensate...according to the "Geneva Convention"

Thought that was for POW's and times of war..who knew lost luggage applied? :confused3

THEN...the scale of compensation can vary from...the time if year your luggage was lost, ie, peak travel season vs low, how many connections, how many cups of coffee the handlers have had...LOL;)

So we'll see...but yes, I think I will come and have a look...beats having it turn up at "The World's Biggest Flea Market"!!:teeth:

Then I think I'm going to send another letter to Mr. Milton, invoicing AC for my flight and time...:scratchin

I know, I have to stop...it's becoming a Crusade!!LOL!

Wow! I had no idea... It doesn't sound like they're rushing on it either :( It does seem like a 100 days is a lot especially since they have all these computers to keep track of anything. I mean it's not like they're communicating with another office through a telegraph machine or pigeons. Of course who really knows :rotfl:

I think that's exactly what's happening!!LOL :rotfl:

So glad to hear you finally got some compensation from AC. Also happy to hear that it's more than $500!
