No luck on the waitlist!

I have been relentlessly stalking the website to pick up the Friday of race weekend in January, and the ONLY rooms available in the entire system are more than 100 points/night!
You know it’s bad when the cabins are the “cheapest” option.

I know race weekend is popular but COME ON! I thought demand was supposed to be weakening.

Waitlists I have had luck with typically came through around 30 days before check-in. January is a long way off.

Agreed - run weekend is very popular, and a decent use of points for DVC members. Also agree that demand, especially recently, is not going to be weaker. It might have backed off a tad from post-pandemic revenge travel levels, but it's probably not going to be 'weak'.

But hang in there, OP. January bookings are far off - just not sure how long you feel you can wait without have a plan in place to fall back to if a room doesn't pop for you. Good luck!

At some point we need to buy plane tickets, so if the waitlist hasn’t come through in the next few months we will cancel and fly on Saturday. Unfortunately.

Demand has softened for cash bookings, DVC is a whole different ball game! Those points have to be used.

Idk if I would rely on the waitlist.
I have had a few bookings for that timeframe, and cancelled as I’ve moved stuff around. Just yesterday I booked SSR in a 1bedroom, I had that waitlisted but it didn’t fulfill- however in stalking the site i found it.

I’m trying! We want to be near the MK due to the race, so options are limited.

Last time I checked Bay Lake 3BD, Cabins, and VGF 3 BD are all gone. As of now, the ONLY room available that day using DVC points is a bungalow. Looks like we will be flying in on Saturday instead!

As CMs have told me, there tends to be more activity as the 30 day dreaded "holding" situation approaches. Say someone gets injured 3-4 months out (been married to a marathon runner for 35+ years so we've been there). Maybe they'll have to cancel, but they really hope not, so don't cancel....yet! But at 35, 34, etc. days-well, guess they have to cancel then. But someone who gets injured several months out-they NEVER give up and cancel right away. But what are your chances of there being enough injuries and the injured deciding to cancel, and you getting a room? Check your crystal ball!

I’d suggest booking a cash room and cancelling it when you get something. It seems almost impossible to me that you won’t pick up something if you don’t care what it is.

I had to stalk to get my own home resort at about 9 months ahead. It’s a VERY popular weekend and the points use in January are so low compared to other times. I would definitely have a backup plan if you want Friday.

Grab a cash off property resort and book your flight - check and make sure there is a good cancellation policy usually it’s 5 or so days out .

The problem is that my mom is ONLY willing to stay at a MK resort that night. She would rather not go on Friday than go and stay somewhere else because she can’t stand bus transportation to MK during the marathon.
