No love for VGF

They say everyone is entitled to their opinion. Here is mine. This is the first trip in the last 5 that we are not staying at BLT. We are at VGF in a lake view. I wish I was home at BLT. The room (1br) is smaller than BLT. We only have 1 bathroom. My view is a noisy construction site at the Poly. There is only 1 hot tub at the resort and the only thing farther from the villas than the hot tub is the mug refill station. The walk to the monorail could be closer, but even with covered walkway, you will get wet when it rains. I don't think there is a great view from any room at the villas. I do think the lobby is one of the most beautiful DVC lobbies. I think young children will be more than bored here.. Again, this is just my opinion as I sit on my balcony and write.

Sounds like you are suffering BLT withdrawals. Not sure your opinion is valid. :). Just kidding btw. I have been convinced merely by reviewers here that we will be trying BLT well before VGF.

Definitely everyone is entitled to their opinion and we all don't like the same things but the things you are not happy about, did you not realize these before you booked? Size and bathrooms are well known, construction at the Polynesian, again well known.

As to the rain well of course you will get wet if the wind is blowing, just as you would walking from the Contemporary to the Magic Kingdom or even the walkway from the BLT to the main building.

As to the views that is subjective and probably does have to be experienced. I personally don't care for any view at the Contemporary of BLT, because of the parking lot but many love it.

At least now you know where you want to be.

I was surprised when we looked around the 1-bed mock-up and we knew immediately that the 2 bathrooms in the 1bed are essential for holidays with our teens.

We adore our home at BLT but still fancy a studio in VGF when it is just DH and me but by then Polynesian will be long finished!

Haven't been to VGF. Do like BLT if you can get high floor lake view in a 1 or 2BR. High floor TP view is OK but consider lake view better. Also believe the 5th to 7th floor TP views at BLT are a huge point rip-off because mostly what you see is the ugly parking lot. What I cannot figure out is why you believe the VGF 1BR is smaller than BLT. On paper, the VGF 1BR at 844 sq ft is supposed to be 41 sq ft larger than BLT, and since the VGF 1BR does not have the second bathroom, the main living/kitchen/dining area should actually be much larger than BLT. So what are you seeing that makes VGF seem smaller?

I stayed at VGF in a studio, and the room felt smaller than other studios for some reason. It felt cluttered by furniture. (I had just left BWV, and that studio seemed larger.) Maybe the 1 bedrooms have a similar feel for some?

It was just beautiful, but I wasn't comfortable. To me, everything seemed crammed in. (I was solo.)

I'm glad I tried it though. :)

I thought the room & resort were beautiful. Parking was very convenient. Monorail access was nice. I did not love the resort- pools were ok, lack of cs dining, & high point cost to stay there. We enjoyed our stay there but it wasn't our favorite.

We still have not stayed at BLT. Since we don't love the CR, I don't think we will love BLT so I can't bring myself to book it ??

I don't think it's worth the extra points it costs to stay there. I did love our 2BR but BLT or BCV/BWV will still be my preference.

We haven't stayed at VGF yet. Toured the models and a actual 2 bedroom at the resort and think that it is beautiful. But looking at the points charts I'm not sure we could ever justify more than a day or 2 there. We own at BLT and BCV and love them both but right now I'm sitting in a villa at SSR and feeling very much at home. :thumbsup2

I've stayed at both resorts and would not have thought that the VGF living room was larger. That's a little surprising. Part of it may be the layout in that there is a defined kitchen and dining area at VGF where BLT has an open layout with no walls. There's also a large hallway at VGF that would take up a bit of the room that in BLT is used for the extra bathroom, smaller entryway and on the outside rooms the stack washer. The bathroom at VGF also is larger than the master bathroom at BLT and I believe the bedroom area at VGF is larger also. My guess would be that the extra space did not go into the living room area - again compared to an even numbered room at BLT. The odd numbered BLT living rooms are probably similar or maybe a touch smaller.

We feel the same way!

About BLT, and we own both. :)

The great thing about WDW and DVC is that there is something for everyone to enjoy and call home.

We haven't stayed at BLT but recently stayed five nights at VGF with two young boys- 2 and 6 y.o. As to kids being bored- no way! ;) My kids absolutely loved the resort. Loved the pool, loved the beach, loved the band in the main lobby, loved the boat and monorail to MK. We had a standard view studio and my kids liked watching the monorail go by. It was an easy walk to Poly for breakfast and dinner. You are right about the walk to the quick service though- long!

We have previously stayed at AKL and VWL. I though the studio was beautiful and had plenty of space with for us with two small kids. Teens? No. The kitchen seemed a little shorter length wise than AKL but the bathroom! Oh the bathroom! I could have spent all day in there! Lol.

I guess a lot of it depends on the room type you are looking for. We did not stay at BLT after hearing how small those studios were.

Not sure if you were aware but there is also a mug refill station at the slide pool near the villas.

And don't forget the walk in closet in the master bedroom. Another waste of living space, IMO. I would have rather that space be used to somehow create a full 2nd bathroom.

Yes - that is huge! Much less expensive to make a closet instead of a bathroom though. :sad2: It really wouldn't have been difficult at all to shift things around and fit another toilet and second shower in.

We are BLT owners that stayed at VGF recently.

VGF are gorgeous rooms. I liked the ice maker in frig, DD really liked the Murphy bed, I liked that there is a wall between the living space and the washer/dryer because it helped muffle the noise when I wash clothes at night. I liked that the dual rain shower and regular shower head worked properly, unlike the ones at BLT that drips ice cold water on you. I like the quick service at GF much better than the one CR, although the location of the one at GF is weird. I don't like the lack of a second toilet.

That said, I prefer BLT for its location and second full bathroom in the one bedroom.

It was nice to stay at VGF once but I'm not in a hurry to stay again and I'm glad that we bought at BLT.

We also like AKV on occasion for something different and when we don't care that it isn't in a convenient location. Also, it has two full baths.

I long to stay at BLT and VGF. We've never been to either.

I'll be the odd one out here but given a choice between a 2nd bathroom and a big closet, I'll take the big closet. DH and I like to unpack and stash away the suitcases as well. It makes me feel like we really live there when the suitcases are tucked away in the closet during our stay and we have plenty of room to hang up our clothes. We have two Owners Lockers that need to be stowed somewhere. I love BWV for that big closet in the master bath and the large closet near the entryway. Everything can be put away out of site including both OLs.

I love AKV/Kidani except for the closet situation. That tiny master closet with its pedestal safe isn't large enough for our clothes let alone any luggage. And when we stayed in a 1BR at BLT I was initially disappointed to learn that we were assigned a room inside the "C" until I discovered the utility room/giant closet off the kitchen! Lots of luggage storage in that room.

So, while I doubt I'll ever stay in a 1BR at VGF (too many points!) the draw for me would be that closet and that nice kitchen! DH and I manage just fine with one bathroom.

We haven't been over to VGF yet, but I already know I HATE BLT for almost t he same reasons the OP said they hated VGF. :rotfl2:
