Just received an email that after doing online check in "for the first time!" You can go staight to your room or the parks without going to the front desk, provided your bands are connected to your tickets. We arrive Friday evening for a room only before our package starts Saturday at GF. This will save some serious time before going to MK our first day. That is, as long as it works right. Changes in the way Disney does things when it comes to their computer system don't always run smooth. Here's hopin!!!

Hmmm. I called twice to find a way and was told twice that bands had to be activated. Had another thread. All said you had to go to the desk before a park. Hope you are correct.

You absolutely can go straight to the park first. At my last trip (POR) I arrived at 9:30am. While pulling on property I got a text that my room was ready with the room number. We drove straight to the room and dropped our stuff and hopped on a bus to the park.
The visit before that (AOA) we never got a text for our room, but still parked and went straight to the park. At the end of the night we had to go to the front desk to get our room #. We did online check-in both times.

And you may or may not receive a room ready e-mail/text. I have done online check in both times we have traveled and have never received a room ready message.

We ve gone straight to park after doing online ck in. We ve stopped at desk After online ck in ( but before a room assign) and have been UPgraded twice.. Luck I suppose.
All I know that is that I have had room ready text before arrival, not avail at front desk ( but then get the text as we re in the Bus to park)
I think it's all luck of the draw or better yet...Disney pixie dust

Enjoy ur visit. Pixie dust ur way!

I'll definitly need to use this. Our plane doesn't get into Orlando until 10pm at night and I'm guessing it will take about an hour just to get our hotel (ASMu). I wanna try to get to sleep as soon as possible once we're there.

It says you MAY be able to do it. You might not get a room ready text which means you will have to hit the front desk at some point.

The whole band activating thing, however, is IMO just cm voodoo.

Not new, it's just that some people have not been notified early. I got this I think in 2014 or early 2015 and went straight to my room. Has worked about 50/50 since. No rhyme or reason as my MDE, credit card, PIN, nothing has changed.

But as PP stated, until they actually send you a text with your room number ..... you might still end up at the front desk and saved virtually no time. Hopefully you do, but be prepared for either way.

I think there is some confusion between going straight to the park and getting a room ready text. They are two separate things. You can always go straight to the park. Bands have never needed to be activated first.
Getting a text that you room is ready has nothing to do with going to the park before going to the resort either. You may never get a text that your room is ready. You are still able to go straight to the park

Are you trying to access tickets early or something? Like have a room only reservation before a package with tickets? That is the only time I can think you'd need to do something to access tickets. Otherwise they are on your account for use as of 6am on check in day

We arrive this Friday with three room only reservations at AofA. Our packages with tickets starts Saturday at GF. We considered adding tickets for Friday but decided against it. Sure would like to skip going to GF to check in or get bands activated. Got some late sleepers in this crew who aren't Disney fans and I'm a little concerned about keeping things moving smooth.

Not all that concerned about the room. Just if I can go straight to the parks. We have a room only the night before. I just want to go from there to the MK. We won't need a room until 3ish.

Okay since this really has nothing to do with direct to room check in but using package tickets .....

Your post is not clear ... for a correct answer ...

Are you arriving Friday evening, hoping to go to MK and use your package tickets? To do that I believe you must have them activated by CM to use.

OR

Are you just talking about using your tickets early Saturday morning before actually arriving at the package hotel .......... and has nothing to do with you staying at Disney hotel Friday night?

We arrive Friday afternoon. We are staying one night at AofA. Room only. No package. No tickets. No dining. Just a room for the night. (Actually three rooms). We have a 4 night, five day package with hoppers and the dining plan at the Grand Floridian starting Saturday. It's a seperate reservation number although everything is connected on MDE. Can we go straight from AofA to the MK Saturday morning without a stop at the GF to get our bands activated? We have two sets of bands although as I understand it, both should work.

Yes, you can go straight...we did it last November. HOWEVER, you will want to stop at Guest Services to make sure your tickets are activated. Even though we had done online check in at the second hotel, the tickets didn't show up until we did that.

Those package based tickets are bugger bears. Stand alone tickets are always active and ready to use.
One thing to know, your band doesn't need anything done to make it work. No such thing as activating a magic band.
It's the tickets that may need attention.

We did a split stay last year and never got a text or email. I still had to go to front desk to check in, both times.
