I really enjoy these on a hot day!

Yeah, not quite the same thing. :lmao:

Loving all the recaps. :thumbsup2

I'm glad you're enjoying them! :)

Here's a bonus post for today, this one revisiting the...

The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor has other ice cream treats besides the previously mentioned Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches.

And they offer several different flavors of ice cream, plus NSA Sorbet, Tofutti and Rice Dream...

A look inside...

Emme is literally a hot mess in that picture! Ha ha!

I waited in line for about 30 minutes for that ice cream. That place has the most ineffective line set up ever. I'm always conflicted to go left or right when the line splits off...and I always chose the wrong side which in turn takes super long to get my order in.

Great recaps barb!! :)

So which is your favorite pretzel? ;)

Well I thought I had pictures from our final meal on Sunday but apparently I do not so I will move into my Final Thoughts:

I was so happy when Barb hinted that I might be able to tag along with the the Dis Dining team for some of their meals. I had such a great time meeting everyone. We had such a good time and love that everyone was so welcoming.

I tried many firsts on this trip

My first character breakfast at CRYSTAL PALACE was fantastic. I loved the pooh's stuffed french toast and the character interactions were fantastic

I was getting nervous because it took a while for Eeyore to come by and he is my all time favorite...

Favorite first time dinner place was CITRICO'S. I loved this meal and of course the company :thumbsup2

I started with the shrimp and feta appetizers in a white wine sauce and it may be my new favorite appetizer. I split the filet with Barb and it was so tender and cooked to perfection. Of course, we all shared a dessert platter that was fantastic. This meal was so much fun and only became more fun when the chef came out to pour us some house made lemoncello.

image-9.jpg
[/URL]

I see that I also had a Hendrick's martini :thumbsup2

My favorite dinner was Shula's with Brenda and Em. Everything from the bread service, to dessert was simply perfection. I had a salad, and the 8 ounce filet. I believe that DH and I also ordered crab mac and cheese. I had the Liberty School Cab with my filet and it complimented the filet perfectly. We split the chocolate lava cake for dessert and then had to be rolled away from the table. It was a prefect meal.

I also enjoyed a few other firsts. The Illimunations cruise was awesome and Barb invited me to come up top the Club level lounge with her which was a nice light bite before dinner. Thanks Barb:wave2:

This trip was a lot of fun and I am glad that I was able to join in the fun.
I really enjoyed meeting Barb, Paula, Hunter, Brenda, Em, Linda, Phillip, Rachel, Patty, Emme, and Vicki on this trip. Hope to connect with you all in the future :goodvibes

I do have some pics from the Easter trip DH and I just got back from so I will eventually start posting some of those reviews

However, for a larger variety of pretzels, you should head to this kiosk located on the Streets of America...

Has anyone had the cinnamon one? Is it just cinnamon or is there sugar on it as well?

Since I've already covered Shula's (Beth's favorite dinner), I will instead feature her favorite first time dinner place...

This is also a favorite WDW restaurant for Paula (smile4stamps) and Hunter. They are leaving tomorrow for their 10th anniversary trip and are planning to have their anniversary day dinner on May 1st at Citricos. I will have the great honor of being present at this dinner, along with Brenda (emmymommy) and her DH Michael. I can't wait!

Ok, let's start with Brenda's great photo of Citricos' open kitchen...

If you are lucky, you might be seated by one of the windows which has a view of the beautiful Grand Floridian grounds...

Now we will take a look at the menu...

But first you might want to nibble on some Multi-grain or Kalamata olive bread...

Personally, I love Citricos' Kalamata olive bread...

Now let's look at the first section of the menu, the Tapas:

I received photos of two of these for the Live Thread...

Ashley Farms Chicken B'steeya in crisp dough with orange blossom honey and toasted almonds

Teresa said,"This was very tasty! He loved it. The flavors were very interesting, but went really well together. I had a small bite and agreed. Very tasty."

Tamarind-grilled Berkshire pork belly with spiced mascarpone creamed corn

She said, "This was just incredible. Thankfully, my sister shares. Perfectly cooked, richness!"

This was changed slightly in the Fall 2013 to...

Tamarind-grilled Berkshire pork belly with Hominy-cheddar Potato Puree

Jenna said,"This was fantastic and the right combination of flavors."

Now the First Course section of the menu...

Sauteed Shrimp with Lemon, White Wine, Tomatoes, and Feta Cheese

Brenda said, I’ve had the sautéed shrimp before; however, my memory of this dish wasn’t as wonderful as the reality of how tasty it was this time. I was really, really, REALLY glad that I had ordered this light alternative that was delicious. The pungent feta was perfect for the lemon/white wine sauce. There was nothing wrong with this dish."

Cheese Course Trio - Murcia al Vino from Spain, Fourme d'Ambert from Auvergne, France, and Petit Agour from Basque region of France

Teresa said, "My DH really enjoyed this!"

Seafood Escabeche - Riesling and Olive Oil-marinated Seared Shrimp, Black Grouper, Prince Edward Island Mussels, and Scallops, Olive Bread Crostini with Taggliasca Olive Spread, and a spicy Jardiniere

Jenna said, "This was amazing. Fresh and very flavorful."

Charcuterie - Serrano Ham, Sopressata, Dry Pork Coppa, Beef Bresaola, Palacios Chorizo, Duck Rillette, Violet Mustard, Pecorino Romano, Medjool Dates, Pickled Fennel, and Marcona Almonds

She said,"Highlights: The chorizo was my favorite. The accents were perfect foils to the salty, sometimes spiciness of the meats--Medjool dates, pickled fennel, marcona almonds, and some mild green olives. My least favorite meat was the duck rillette. Not enough duck flavor. The white powder near it was a little molecular gastronomy a la Wylie Dufresne. Listed as lavender mustard, it looked cool, but I would have rather had the real thing! Overall it was a lovely presentation that is very shareable!"

Arancini - Crispy Risotto with Crimini Mushrooms, Asiago, and Charred Tomato Coulis

Teresa said, "This was good, but I didn't eat the whole thing. I was trying to save room."

Panadas - Spiced and Slow-cooked Beef and Pork in crisp Phyllo with Tamarind Sauce

Paula said, "It has great flavor but needs some more sauce."

Check back later for the Salads, Entrees, and Desserts.

Glad to see a Citricos round up Barb
It's the one signature we haven't tried yet and I am going to have to squeeze it in!

CITRICOS - PART II

Now lets take a look at the Soups and Salads section of Citricos menu...

Zuckerman's Farm Delta Asparagus - Petite Spring Salad, Applewood-smoked Bacon Lardons, Soft-poached Lake Meadow Farm Egg, Meyer Lemon Oil and Bacon-Sherry Vinaigrette

Florida King Farm Peaches and Baby Greens Salad with Balsamic-Orange Blossom Honey Emulsion, Pickled Red Pearl Onions, Bosina Robiola-Sun-dried Tomato Crostini, and Spiced Walnuts

She said, "DH had the peach salad, which he also loved."

Florida Heirloom Tomatoes with Mozzarella, Mixed Greens, White Balsamic Tomato Emulsion, Micro Basil, and Garlic Gremolata

Gabrielle said, "This was so good! It was very light and fresh!"

This was changed in the Fall 2013 to this...

Crispy Fried Yellow Tomato and Buffalo Mozzarella with Heirloom Red Romaine and Green Goddess Dressing

Teresa said, "I really enjoyed this! The fried tomato was very tasty and went really well with the cheese (which actually really tasted like buffalo, and not just fresh mozzarella). DH had a few nibbles as well, and finished off my salad which I only took a few bites of."

And here is salad which appeared on the menu back in February 2013 when Em and her mom, Brenda had dinner there...

Artisanal Greens and Heirloom Apples with Balsamic-orange blossom honey emulsion, pickled red pearl onions, medjool dates, spiced pistachios, and valdeon cheese

Em said, "We both had this salad. It was absolutely delicious. The best salad I've ever had."

Now lets move on to the Entrees...

Cassola Fregola Sarda - Head-on Shrimp, Atlantic Scallops, New Smyrna Clams, P.E.I. Mussels, and Peppadew Coulis

Gabrielle said, "I wasn't sure what I wanted to order but I'm so glad I ordered this. Everything was super yummy and flavorful!"

Berkshire Pork Two Ways - Rotisserie Pork Tenderloin and Roasted Berkshire Pork Belly with Zellwood Spiced Sorella Mascarpone Creamed Corn, Rainbow Swiss Chard, and Cherry Gastrique

Wendy said, "The pork tenderloin was amazing and tender. Pork belly was new to me and too rich to finish. Paired with a delicious creamed corn."

Pan-roasted Ashley Farms Chicken Breast with Creamy Goat Cheese Polenta, Apple Cider Chicken Demi-glace, and Root Spinach (Feb. 2013)

Em said, "I wasn't especially hungry, but this was an absolutely perfect lighter meal."

In the Fall 2013, this had changed to...

Pan-roasted Ashley Farms Chicken Breast with Marble Potato Hash, Butternut Squash Puree, Herb Butter, Demi Glace de Pollo, and Baby Spinach

Peter said, "I loved the presentation. The crispy chicken skin and made sure to save it for last. The chicken was so tender and succulent, and the compound herb butter added even more flavor to the dish. The potato hash really wasn't a hash, more like just a few boiled potatoes."

Madeira-braised Short Ribs with Trofie Pasta, Wild Mushroom Ragout, and Truffle Creme Fraiche

Paula said, "I don't think I liked it." ;)

By Fall 2013 this had changed to...

Madeira-braised Short Ribs with Hominy-Cheddar Potato Puree and Wild Mushroom Ragout

Maiky said, "We both chose the Madeira-braised Short Ribs, every bite was delicious!!"

Braised Veal Shank with Roasted Elephant Garlic-Smashed Yukon Gold Potatoes, Rainbow Carrots, Heirloom Long Beans, and Toasted Citrus Gremolata

Jenna said, "This was extremely disappointing. Not cooked well and very tough. The flavors were blah."

Oak-grilled Filet of Beef served with roasted pearl onions, rainbow carrots, micro celery, barley risotto with peas, and cabernet demi-glace

By the time that Brenda and Em returned to Citricos in Dec. 2013 this had changed to...

Oak-grilled Filet of Beef served with Hominy-Cheddar-Potato Purée, Balsamic Caramelized Onions, Peppadew Peppers, Arugula Greens, and Cabernet Demi-glace

Brenda said, "Em ordered her filet medium-rare which was exactly how it was served. I was a little worried that she wouldn’t like the hominy-cheddar accompaniment but she thoroughly enjoyed this."

And that just leaves the Vegetarian Entree...

CITRICOS - PART III

Now for the finale, the Desserts...

Seasonal Berry Gratin with a Champagne-Grand Marnier Sabayon

Lemon-scented Cheesecake with a blanket of White Chocolate Ganache

Jill said, "For dessert I got the Lemon Scented Cheesecake. It's a lighter version (compared to NY cheesecake) and slightly lemony. Very delicious."

Warm Chocolate-Banana Torte with Vanilla Ice Cream and Handcrafted Belgium Couverture Chocolate Crown

Peter said, "Holy cow was that cake rich! I'm a sucker for those molten cakes which this was, but you pretty much needed to eat every bite with a spoonful of the ice cream because the cake was too rich to be eaten on its own."

Tasting of Gelato featuring Italian Vanilla Bean, Cappuccino, and Raspberry

She said, "There were only two out of three left when we remembered to take a picture! Did I mention the wine pairings were perfect? ;) The cappuccino magically disappeared! The raspberry and the vanilla were equally good. Fun presentation and a perfect size!"

Tropical Creme Brulee with Mango and Assorted Berries

Tiramisu with Italian Sorella Mascarpone and Chocolate Sauce

And then last is a photo by Beth (Couch) of the dessert platter which we received during our dinner at Citricos in December...

This included the Chocolate Torte, Tiramisu, Lemon-scented Cheesecake, and Berry Gratin.

Our very happy and well-fed group...

Paula, Barb, Brenda, Hunter, Em, and Beth

Oops, I almost forgot the one review that we received from Wendydagny of some of the Kids options at Citricos...

Kids Appetizer: Cheese, Grapes, and Goldfish crackers

Wendy said, "Really enjoyed the cheese variety here."

Kids Entree: Grilled Berkshire Pork Tenderloin with Apple Marmalade, Roasted Potatoes and Broccolini

Kids Dessert: Chocolate Mousse

For the most part, the overall comments regarding their dinners at Citricos were very positive...

TeresaG said, "Citricos was our favorite signature dining. I was expecting Narcoossee's to be the fave, but Citricos was amazing.

MichelleWDWFan said, "The service here was impeccable, and the cuisine was wonderful. The filet was perfect."

pennyplanner said, "Overall rating: 5 Stars!
Although our waiter got off to a slow start, (dribbled wine--the tablecloth and all over the side of the wine glass!) he recovered nicely. The food was artfully presented, and the textures and flavors followed suit. We thoroughly enjoyed the well chosen wine pairings. And although a signature location, this is a relaxed dining experience with comfy chairs that is not overly loud."

Maiky said, "The food was excellent as well as the service. This restaurant is one of our favorites."

peteykirch said, "Overall I thought this was a great meal. I'm not upset over cancelling Flying Fish, mainly because I'm not a big seafood eater. Honestly I was trying to get into California Grill again but couldn't even get into the lounge that night. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was great."

However, there was one bad experience...

DisWishes720 said, "The service was horrible and the meal was also very disappointing. We decided to skip dessert out of frustration and head over to Beaches & Cream.

The final day in the World always makes me a little sad. I'm always amazed by how time seems to pass at warp speed and before I know it even an extended trip is over. :sad1:

But I do have a strategy to help me cope with our impending departure and that's to make sure our dining ADRs include some of our favorite places on the final day.

After letting the kids pick our final morning park destination, we headed to Hollywood Studios and another round of TSMM.

After riding TSMM and pulling one of our final legacy fastpasses ever, we headed to grab breakfast at one of our favorite places in the Studios.

On the ninth day of our Christmas trip, our family chose to eat...Breakfast at Starring Rolls.

Starring Rolls is a pretty small location, adjacent to Hollywood Brown Derby. There are a few tables outside of the location as well as a few low walls that can be used as an impromptu table.

For his breakfast, DH chose a cherry turnover.

DH's feedback was that the turnover was very good and that it hit the spot.

I selected one of my favorite quick breakfast items at WDW, a cheese danish.

While the photo may look like a run of the mill cheese danish, I can attest that the WDW versions are so much better than most I encounter outside of the gates. WDW cheese danishes are made of a soft pastry with a very creamy, thick cream cheese filling. Most cheese danishes I have encountered outside of the WDW gates have a hard pastry and a small amount of rather dry cream cheese filling. I find WDW cheese danishes to be quite good and worth a selection despite all of the other competing goodies.

DD picked her breakfast "go to", a chocolate croissant with the addition of a cup of strawberry yogurt.

DD really loves these croissants. She ate all of it and ended up sharing her yogurt with her little sister.

DS selected a chocolate chip muffin that was literally bursting with chips.

This used to be DS's "go to" at the old Main Street Bakery. He was very happy to be able to get this muffin at Starring Rolls.

Breakfast finished, we headed out for a few more rides before our lunch at one of the two remaining TS locations at the Studios that we had not dined at yet on this trip. ;)

Thank you DeeDee for reminding me to put that cheese danish on my "Must Try" list. Also thanks for giving me an idea for the theme of my next Live Thread highlights post. :thumbsup2

For my next Live Thread highlights post, I decided to feature another one of my December trip favorites...

While I've never been to the Grand Floridian Cafe for either lunch or dinner, I can wholeheartedly recommend it if you are looking for a great place to have a quiet and delicious breakfast. Here is why...

At the GFC you will get to enjoy the simple beauty of a single red rose at your table.

They offer both some standard breakfast entrees as well as some more unusual ones.

Half of these entrees were reviewed by our live reporters, beginning with the...

American - Two Eggs (scrambled) served with Bacon, Sausage, Biscuits, Breakfast Potatoes and choice of juice.

Brenda said, "For me, the vanilla laced French toast owns my taste buds. Truly. I don’t mess with perfection so until they remove this from the menu or they change it so that it is no longer amazing I’ll just keep order these little triangles."

The French Toast comes with either bacon...

...or with sausage.
