This may be old news, but it was reported in the news over in the uk today , that Disney will no longer be serving junk foods ie: burgers, fries, fizzy drinks in an effort to combat obesity in children, these will all be replaced by heathy alternatives , pasta, fruit and water.
Does this mean the end of hot dogs at Casey's Corner? They are legendary....... and what about the burgers at Cosmic Rays!!
I have 2 girls who eat healthily, active and don't binge on junk food or sweets, and I feel a hot dog or burger once in a while does no harm.
Will Disney completely outlaw these junk foods or will people still have the option.
Anyone any opinions or info on this? :wave2:

That UK article was an extreme exaggeration of what's actually happening. Disney is not getting rid of the junk food in the parks. They're merely providing ADDITIONAL, healthier choices along with the junk. They are also going to stop cooking said junk food with trans-fats, which can only be a good thing. That trans-fat-containing fry oil is a chemical soup that's horrendously bad for you, and I'm glad to see them cooking with an actual food product instead of something brewed up in a lab.

As long as Disney realizes that chocolate and popcorn are healthy,I'm ok. :teeth:

Junk food will still be everywhere--the shops, the counter service restaurants, etc. At the table service restaurants, however, they are rolling out a new kids menu with healthier choices on it.

And that a Dole Whip Float is considered a "fruit"!!!! :teeth:

example last year when we went some of the restaurants offered chicken drum stick, mashed potatoes and cooked carrots or a mini salad w/ chicken strips on the kids meal menu as opposed to chicken finger and french fries.

The recent news headlines were more related to Disney-branded food items you might find at your local grocery store, i.e. cereal, popsicles, etc. Disney announced that they would take steps to make that sort of food healthier. They are also adding healthier alternatives in the parks, but that's only a tiny fraction of Disney's food product.

Don't worry, you'll still get your Casey's hotdogs and Dole Whips!

You may want to check out the restaurant forum, there is a lot of discussion about this over there.
