No irons?

I just read in a thread that the rooms don't have irons. Can you bring your own? I have a travel iron I take with me everywhere. If not, what do you do about wrinkles?

I don't see why you couldn't bring your own...but this will be our first cruise. I plan on bringing that Downey wrinkle spray...I use it here at home all the time!

According the DCL web site, irons are only allowed in the laundry room because of safety reasons (fire hazard).

I've cruised 3 times and there has been an iron available in the laundry room every time I needed it. The outlet had a timer on it to reduce the fire risk.

We use a combo of the Downey spray and a travel steamer. I'm always leary of an iron that isn't my own scorching something really nice, just before dinner.

We used the downy wrinkle release spray and steamer and it worked great for us the last time.
BUT this time our dd is bringing a long gown that the steamer won't work on. We are brining our own iron to use in the laudry room. Someone just posted about how they ended up having a very bad scorch mark on a expensive dress because the setting was not working correct on the iron that DCL had in the laundry room. Not taking any chances.

And there is a real issue of allowing electric irons in the staterooms. The fire risk is too high for them to take it. And no matter how much some one can go and say 'no, not me', it can happen. There is also the issue of just causing damage to the stateroom. Our last cruise there was a nice, neat triangular shaped scorch on the counter in the bathroom. :/

And, honestly, you have other options.

The irons offered for free are good, also they do have fast, efficient laundry/drycleaning services onboard that will do press only if you really need it done.

Also there are two other things to consider, one, you are on vacation, let the housework stay at home. Second, the other real fact is noone is going to notice a wrinkle unless you've rolled it up in a ball or something where it is one big wrinkle. You'd be better off getting a good garment bag to pack the wrinklables in.

I can't remember where I read this, but evidently steamers aren't allowed in the state rooms either!

I'll have to do a search, but I'm pretty sure the source was reputable and maybe even official.

And smoking in the staterooms is not allowed either yet I have noticed cigarette scorch marks on the dresser.


I will be taking my iron to the laundry room to use. We unpack right away and spray everything that is wrinkled with the release spray. That way when evening time hits our clothes are dry and wrinkle free. Not willing to take a chance on having the DCL iron ruin dd dress.

Does the wrinkle release leave any kind of mark on the clothes, especially if they won't be laundered for a few days, and do you have to use a steamer with it for it to be effective?

Just send your clothes out to be pressed when you board the ship! Someone posted the prices for pressing awhile back and it seemed to be worth it!

I found the price list for the Dry Cleaning Service. VERY reasonable!!

The prices for the onboard drycleaning and pressing services are cheaper on the ship than where I live. So, since I packed on Saturday, for this weekend (yea!), I put all my drycleaning in a garbage bag inside my luggage, and the pressing (dress clothes only) I will put in a separate bag outside my door when I get on board and they will return it back to me before dinner on Sunday. So why bother paying to clean it here, and drag it there and have it all be wrinkled and then need to pressed? TAKE IT WITH YOU LET THEM DO IT!!!!
