Trying to combat the wrinkle problem... single handedly!:Pinkbounc :p

Concerned about pressing costs with a family of 5!

Personal steamers are also prohibited...

I found the combination of Downy spray-on wrinkle remover (which I'd never used before) and the hair dryer in the bathroom to be a godsend! Just spray any item of clothing and pull/stretch out the wrinkles. The clothing will then be slightly damp; you can either wait for it to dry on its own (I never thought far enough ahead to do this), or dry it very quickly with the hair dryer. Bonus: the bathroom and stateroom will smell great after you do this...

There's also a pull-out clothesline above the shower, so you can hang clothes in there after someone takes a shower and take advantage of the steam to get rid of major wrinkles. Just be sure to take some extra plastic or wire hangers with you; there definitely won't be enough for a family of 5!

I will have to add DOWNY to my list of CRUISE Must-haves!:jester:

I say go for it! I posted this on another thread and was happily "un-flamed". Bring your steamer or your iron and just be careful. Remember that the cabin is an enclosed space and that with your kids in the room, there won't be a lot of maneuverability around a steamer or a hot iron. Throw a towel on the dresser or coffee table and put your garment on top. You can iron safely this way. Then, don't leave the cabin until the iron has cooled (you can even go so far as to wrap the warm iron plate in tin foil). I do this on my cruises and so far (knock wood) every ship I've sailed on is still sailing w/o fire damage! :D

No irons or steamers are allowed in the staterooms. There are irons and iron boards available for use for FREE in the laundry rooms. Just don't wait until the last minute on formal nights or you might have a long wait.

FUNNY STORY ---
My hubby went down to the landry room to press his tie on formal night. There was one girl with her head laid on the ironing board -- she had very long 'curly' hair. Another girl was pressing her hair with an iron to straighten it for formal night.

I don't want to break the rules... I just want to get rid of the wrinkles!!!:smooth:

I bet that was funny looking... but I have heard that is how it was done before they made curling/ straighting irons!

I agree with Mrsltg.. We took our own iron, which IS allowed to take your own, they just ask you use them in the laundry room. We are bad people I guess, and used it in our room. We are smart enough to know to unplug it for safety reasons. I don't know anyone who does NOT unplug it at home, either. If irons were so dangerous, you'd hear stories of houses being burnt down all the time by irons. Anyways, throw flames my way. I can take it. I've had this same argument before on these boards. But YES, the rules say no irons to be USED in staterooms.. Take your own even if you don't use it in your room. You MAY end up with lovely brown dirty water on your clothes when using the "community iron".

We went and purchased a brand new travel iron for our January 2002 cruise. I guess that I didn't read the fine print about not using an iron in a stateroom. Anyway, we never ended up needing to use the iron. DW said that it was a comfort knowing that she had one available. Now we know the rules. Anyone need a brand new travel iron?

No flames here!!!:Pinkbounc I didn't think of taking our own iron... did not know that was and option.:earseek:

I suppose no one has a horror story about irons... so does that mean I can bring my hand held steamer?:jester:

On the Magic, Room 5622 - there is a large burn mark from an iron. I made sure that our housekeeper noted that it was there when we arrived!

I didn't even think about an iron in the room, I assumed that there would be one there (like in some hotel rooms) but at least there are three laundry rooms on ship!

Ah Heck, I brought my travel steamer without any problems. I made sure it was unplugged and placed it in the sink to call off. I'm sure it was noticed during the evening room setup but nothing was said. It was a saver since my dress shirts turned into a real mess.

EASY, EASY!! And it works............... spray garment with downy wrinkle spray...... hang on outside of shower curtain( pull both the plastic and the cloth one). Your clothes steam while you shower. I even did this with a linen capri set-- came out great!! By the time you are ready to dress the clothes are dry and look great! And this is vacation!! NO IRONING!!!! LOL!!
