The internet fares are a LOT lower, but you can't book an infant ticket through the web or the USAir 800 number. Well, you can, but it is the same price as an adult ticket! It is actually cheaper to buy three internet tickets than to buy 2 adults & a half price infant ticket over the phone!

Since I originally booked my flights over the phone, they cannot reissue my tickets at the lower internet fares. I would have booked on the internet if I could have! The best I could do was get a $6 voucher :(

You cannot book any special fares (senior citizen, infant, etc) over the internet on USAir. I'm thinking of writing to complain. I just have to figure out what to say & who to say it to :)

Thanks for listening to me vent!

hmm I could have sworn I booked a sr fare over the internet on usair. you have to put the code in the box it says promotional code or something like that. if you put the code in there then you can get it. I got it last dec when I booked my mom's tkt and mine and aryns as well. all 3 of us were on the same ressie and my mom and my dd got the sr discount.... it gives the sr discount to the senior and one member traveling with them. I wonder if you put the infant code in if it would work!

Unforunately, as I've been told by US Air, they currently don't have the capabilities to book infant fares over the internet, and don't currently offer infant discounts on "web only" fares. I also had to book 4 adult tickets for us to go, it was only marginally cheaper, because of the infant discount I was able to get on expedia.com. Luckily, I did have a "web only" fare, when they did drop, I was able to get an $80 voucher.

Since my ticket wasn't an internet one, the web reservation people wouldn't touch it, and regular reservations said they couldn't change a regular ticket to the discounted web fare. I didn't realize they were so separate!

Next time I'll book using Beverly Lynn's travel service because she knows all the tricks!

all you need to know is the codes. I was able to use the infant code on deltas sight in may of 98 and jul of 99. thanks for the vote gillian!

I have bought 3 adult tickets on the airline internet site and then called to reserve an infant seat. It worked fine although I did have to call back once to ensure that the infant seat was next to my seat.

The reservation person I spoke with at US air (not web reservations) said that he wouldn't be able to book an infant at half the adult internet fare, but I don't remember exactly why. It had something to do with the infant fare having to be attached to an adult fare. you can't book it by itself. he didn't seem to be able to do any special tickets with the web stuff.

Well, next time I will call the internet number and talk to someone there to see what the real story is. I know we will be flying more before DS turns 2!

I guess policy may vary by airline. I was able to get an infant fare through Delta's regular phone reservations system after making 3 adult reservations online. I did have to pay half of the non-internet fare for the infant ticket though, it was slightly more than half of the internet fare.

I was able to get the senior (10%) discount for my in-laws on the usair website. It is very strange, however. There is a place that mark senior in, but it is just a text field, it doesn't actually change the charge as shown on your screens. I called USAIR, and they said that they look at this field and than adjust the price before issuing the tickets. It worked and the actually charges came out correctly, but was awkward as you seem to be accepting the higher price on line.

I was just able to get an adjustment on the tickets for me & DH!! I went on the web site & noticed that there was a very cheap rate for our exact flights (before it was only for the outbound, but they still couldn't give us money back because of the baby) This time they separated our reservation into two separate ones & are sending vouchers for the two adults!

I guess it's like calling CRO - take the best 2 out of 3 answers!

Can you believe that my 1 year old has his own reservation??
:sunny:

I called US Air 800# the rep I spoke to gave me the web fare over the phone. I have 2 children under 2 yrs and she gave 1/2 price seats for them. For 5 seats I paid $449.50
