No Good Deed goes UNPUNISHED!

::yes:: Your insurance company doesn't want to pay for this any more than you do. Let them recoup it for you, and themselves. I've done it and it didn't increase my premium.

That was my question. I think I will put in a claim when I have the information. I don't need my insurance to go up.

I think this must happen everywhere. I had someone pull the same sob story on me. He T-Boned me at an intersection in the snow. Pushed me across on-coming traffic and then gunned his engine spinning me around. The guy cried. Even begged me to not call the cops because he would lose his license and if he couldn't drive he'd lose his job...wife was pregnanet, yada, yada, yada. Guy sends me to a "friend" at an autobody shop. Only to find out the "friend" was just someone his mother knew and he wasn't going to do any work on my car without someone paying him. After months of calling and getting a run around, I told them I was going to file with my insurance which would require a police report. The wife, who wasn't even at the accident, threathens to sue me for hit and run! Uhhh, he hit me! Long story short, wife tells me to "go ahead an file. My daddy's a cop and I'll get the record pulled!" So I filed. And quess what? My insurance goes to pull the record and low and behold, the darn thing never existed! (According to the lovely Philadelphia Police Department!) I had to file 3 times, the last with the Captain, before my insurance could process my claim.

Lesson learned - never again!

Yikes. It good to know however that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. DS 26 is smarter than me. He got hit in a parking lot at the Eastern States Expo. The lady had been drinking, gave the sob story about calling the cops, (she wasn't drunk). He said "fine lady, here is my cell phone, call your insurance company and file the claim right now in front of me and then let me speak to the claims rep to be sure you did it". She did.

I work in insurance claims and handle all our legal files. If you go through your own ins. most will go to the end of the earth to get your money back. It may take a while, but they will send these people to collections and ruin their credit if they don't pay. If you file a small claims court and they refuse to pay, if the judge rules in your favor and gives them a judgement that judgement will hunt them until they settle it.... It never just goes away when you get an large insurance company or court system in the mix.

The police will attempt to get the insurance information for me. It seems that they will be able to because she is required to keep the card in the car or be summoned to court. If I have the company and the number, I will file a claim with my insurance. Hopefully I will have that on Wednesday. I will wait until then to call my insurance company. Anything else I should know?
