Hurrah! I've been meaning to post this since we got back on Feb 5.

DS is growing up! (age 13, has Down Syndrome) We were able to get thru a whole trip without even getting a GAC. Granted, the very light crowds were a big factor, but still...

We were able to get fastpasses for some rides (mostly after we'd ridden once with a relatively short wait). I was able to tell him that we had to "get a ticket" to ride again and he was OK with it. In the past, he would sulk and complain an refuse to go do ANYTHING else until we rode whatever the ride of the moment was.

Only one ride did we not do at all - Aladdin's Carpet in MK. He freaked at the line (it was probably only 10 minutes, but the way that one is set up all the people are kind of mobbed together by the ride). I think if he can't see all the folks in line and it's not too long, he's OK. But he won't go near a ride where he sees a crowd. And on one other ride, I don't remember which, he "changed his mind" and decided not to ride because of the crowd - but it was FP ride, so I was able to grab FP's and then he did get to ride later.

Thanks for listening. It the small triumphs that mean so much.

Congratulations! It is always nice to be able to celebrate our kids' successes :goodvibes

Congratulations that is a big accomplishment

Funny how some people might think we have it easy because we can get a GAC but in reality I would love to do WDW without using one at all. DS8 just has no concept of time or waiting for something. We are working on it and hope to get there someday.

Glad to see people who aren't running for special privledges and actually make a concious effort

Hopefully it will come. As recently as a year ago, my DS couldn't wait at all. I couldn't get fast passes because when he saw the ride he wanted to go NOW. I remember on Test Track they gave us a hand-written "FP" to come back in an hour. He REFUSED to do anything else (except pout) while we waited. This trip he was totally OK with the concept of "let's get a ticket that will tell us when to come back" and going on to do something else in the meantime.

This was our first trip without using a GAC at all. It really was a liberating feeling!

Congratulations to you all, Lisa!:cool1:

That is wonderful news. It gives a lot of us special needs moms hope that one day our little ones can do it too. DD hates the rides right now so for me that hope is one day she will love the rides again.

Congrats to your little one for the big step.
