We did Christmas today for my side of the family. I get so stressed out over these functions. They are never fun.
We were at one of my sister's house for most of the afternoon. We spent most of the afternoon hearing about the estate of my BIL's late father. His father passed away several months ago. They are finding all sorts of treasures, old coins, old savings bonds, apparently tons of cash, some fine numbered lithographs etc. It was a surprise to my BIL's family that dad had so much cash laying around...they are meeting with appraisers...they have to catalogue all the stuff...
While I would understand all the fuss about this if he were the executor of the estate, and had to deal with all the work of settling the estate and the probate. Except, for me, the really annoying part came when they were talking about how they are going to spend the inheritance. There will be a trip to Europe for their family. There will be new carpeting/flooring in their home. They don't know how much the inheritance will be, but they certailny have plans to spend it.
Then he had the nerve to comment that they are going to get hit with taxes. Heh - a windfall less the taxes is still a windfall in my books.
And at no time, did my sister or her husband mention 1 thing about maybe we should put some money away for college for either of my 9th grade or 6th grade nieces.
