No Full Size Cribs at OKW!

I had read in another post that full-size cribs were available at OKW upon request. My 2.5 yr old won't fit in a Pack N Play, so I was excited about this possibility. Anyhow, I just got off the phone with OKW and I requested what I hope was reasonable for the 1-bedroom that we will be checking into this Saturday: bathroom access through the laundry room, non-smoking, and preferably something close to a bus stop and main pool since we have young kids. My last inquiry was about the full-size crib and I was told, "They were making some changes" but she would get back to me about it. I was put on hold then was told that the cribs were no longer available. She asked if bed rails would help and I said probably not since I didn't think they would work on the sofa bed. As I expected, no extra bedding would be provided that I could place on the floor for my son, so we'll probably buy a kid's sleeping bag of some sort once we get into town. Well, I should say the next day, since we arrive around 10:00p Saturday night, so we may all be sharing the king bed!

You might also try the cushions from the sofa placed on the floor with the wall on one side and chair on the other to hold him on the cushions.

Thanks for the suggestion. That might work. Does anyone know if the mattress from the sofa sleeper can be removed and placed on the floor?

Yes, it can be removed.

Thanks Gail. I think that may work for us or at least serve as a temporary solution until we can purchase something else.

The king size bed is very high off the ground as other beds are at OKW. I never used the sofa bed in the living room but it can not be that high off the ground as the other beds. I would think that with the cushons on the side of the bed on the floor the child might be ok even if he falls off. The only problems with the living room area for sleeping is the size and all the windows, it could be a little scary for a 2 year old. You might find him with you in the king size either way.

Just so you won't be disappointed, the units with the "seperate entrance to bath", are only in units 30 and higher. With the exception of the new buildings (numbered in the 60s'), these units are not located in the immediate vicinity of the main pool. The Turtle Pond Pool is in the middle of this type of unit and is very similar to the main pool (maybe even nicer to some). Also, when you make your requests they should be in order. If you stated them as above, getting you the seperate entrance to bath would come before getting you a non-smoking unit.

I'm sure you'll get a unit you'll enjoy. Have a terrific trip!

The bed rails do work on the sofa bed . My youngest dd has been -using them for the past year or so. You just put the rail on and put the cushions at the top of the mattress to block the hole. Barb

Wasn't holding my breath to get a great unit, especially since our arrival time is so late at night! But I did want a separate entrance so anyone waking up early or going to bed early won't have to disturb sleepers in the bedroom. We were at OKW last year and had a unit with a separate entrance to the bathroom that was conveniently located. I thought the building number was twenty-something? Oh well, we can just hope for the best! I know about listing preferences in priority and figured the separate entrance to the bathroom would be most important since we would use that daily and we won't be taking the bus or swimming at the pool daily. We don't prefer a smoking room, but I thought I had read that even the smoking rooms could be de-smoked so I was hoping it wouldn't be that bad if we got stuck in a smoking room.

Since we stayed at OKW in a 1-bedroom last year, I know how high the beds are. We also have a 5 year old, so I was hoping that our 2 year old would be willing to sleep with him. It might work for both of them to be on the sofa sleeper mattress if it is on the floor, in case someone rolls off. Last year we drove so we had the luxury of packing a fold up play tent and sleeping bags for the kids and they had fun sleeping in that!

Some one else help me out here but isn't there an offsite place you can call for a crib? I remember hearing about it in another thread. I think you could get cribs and strollers because I remember thinking that we might need a stroller for our Jan 2005 trip. Does anyone remember the place to call?

I remember reading that also, and I think if you call MS they will be able to help you find the number. That is how I got the medical rental places when I needed the scooter last year.

Don't know if this is the place you guys were thinking of, but I know of "A Baby's Best Friend" www.abbf.com. The phone number is on their website along with what they rent and prices.

We found the bed rails work on the rollaway sofa bed as well - we place them under the mattress buttressed against the metal outside frame and then place cushions around the top and sides of the mattress against the couch in case DS#1 does bed gymnastics during his sleeping hours

thanks
