Meh. I don't really care. Years ago we stayed in a value with a free dining plan and it was a good deal. Now you have to add park hopper, stay in a deluxe if you actually want regular dining plan without having to pay to upgrade. And pay full price for the room.
I do think that it's still a good selling point for Disney because people just read "FREE DINING" and they don't do the math or realize that it might not be that great of a deal. I save more money with a room discount and pay out of pocket for all of the meals we want. I just saw someone posting on a local Moms group about how much she loved the dining plan because she got to bring home a bunch of snacks at the end of her trip. Okay fine. If you want to essentially pay $5 for ONE rice Krispy treat on a stick or a tiny box of cookies and think that you're getting a good deal, okay... There will always be people who buy into this and Disney knows this. So I don't necessary think it's going away.
