the Storybook boats and perhaps the Jungle Cruise? Is it fine to use flash photography on these rides?

I would say yes; they're outdoor rides. I'm not sure if anyone would disagree, particularly at night, but I would feel it is completely appropriate to use flash photography in both of those rides. :)

You probably won't need flash on those rides during the day since they're outdoors. I've taken plenty of pictures on the Jungle Cruise without using flash. If you're riding at night, I would recommend against using flash. I think it would ruin the ride's effect for other visitors - not much different than seeing a huge flash on a dark ride.

Yeah I agree with Luv.. During the day you won't need flash and at night I think they count as 'dark rides'..it'd probably annoy everyone. You may be able to get good shots without flash tho! Sometimes cameras surprise you :)

I totally agree with Luv Bunnies, flash camera are kind of distracting on the ride. Plus, if you use the flash on the Jungle Cruise don't think the Cast Member will hesitate for a few jokes at your expense. If you must, I recommend using it sparingly on the scenes you really want a picture of.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't use the flash at night on the rides...I just wasn't sure how dark it got on the Storybook ride when you go in the whale and if a flash is needed or on the Jungle Cruise if there's a lot of shade (or is there a part when you go in a cave, too?)

I think you need to listen to the rules, for example at POC, they tell you not use a flash. There are actually many reasons behind this, including the fact that using a flash may reveal how some effects work, which they don't want.

On it's a small world, it is ok to use a flash, if it will not disturb others, i.e. you are the only party on your boat and the boat in front of you and behind you are empty.

In my opinion, outdoor attractions are fine, as long as it is safe to do so. The Jungle Cruise skippers for example don't mind at all. That being said, Flash pictures don't come out very well, unless you have an external flash, due to how far away everything is from you. Remember most camera internal flash's are good for 5-10 feet, at most.

Bottom line is if you are in doubt, either don't do it or ask a CM.

This.

Not to mention the fact that camera flash, at least that on a typical point and shoot camera, is meant to illuminate from 5 to 12 feet away from the photographer. It just does not help - in fact, it detracts from the photo - when you use a flash when your subject is more than about 10 feet away. It really bothers me to see all the flashes at, say Fantasmic! or other similar setting!

Many new p&s cameras have surprisingly good low-light, NON-flash capability. I have a little Sony that has a setting that takes great pics at night, with NO flash. Everyone should learn how to turn the flash off, or just not use a camera outside at night!

Sorry for the vent, it's a pet peeve of mine!

Or take video with your camera.

For some reason, fuzzy night still photos bother me but fuzzy video bothers me much less. I think it's actually some human factors thing where since the camera is moving around anyway your eye somehow integrates across the fuzziness and gives you a better impression of what's going on.
