I am sooooo disapointed. This was the only reason we chose to book our trip the last weekend in August instead of September.
What a buzz kill- the year we choose Disneyland over WDW, WDW gets my most very favorite magical Disney thing.![]()
Long story short: Disneyland Resort officials anticipate that theres going to be this huge learning curve when it comes to the Operations side of Disney's World of Color. Not only for the technicians who have to make sure that all of the underlying technology & infrastructure is working properly so that Steve Davisons latest extravaganza can then be presented multiple times nightly. But also for those Cast Members who will be handling crowd control. Who now have to invent a procedure for safely moving 9,000 Guests in & out of Paradise Bays still-under-construction waterfront viewing area. Not to mention keeping tabs on those 9,000 other DLR visitors who have already queued up for World of Color s second show of the night.
And given that many of the very best viewing spots for Disneys World of Color will basically back up against that still-quite-active construction site for DCAs The Little Mermaid: Ariels Undersea Adventure attraction The worry in-house was -- to attempt to do all this (i.e. get 9,000 people safely loaded into Paradise Bays new waterfront viewing area, run that show, then exit all of those Guests from the official WOC viewing area, while still maintaining control over those 9,000 other Disneyland visitors who are patiently waiting in line elsewhere in the Park to see World of Color s second show of the night) PLUS still run Disneys Electrical Parade through the Park on hot summer nights -- was a recipe for disaster. Especially when you take into consideration how narrow so many of DCAs paths, walkways & entertainment corridors are these days thanks to all those construction fences.
So does this mean that MK will have BOTH the Electrical Parade and SpectroMagic?? How is that fair?
I will say that if they were to announce a switch, and bring Spectro to DL for the summer, I would be thrilled with that! I love Spectro just as much as the EP (for different reasons) so to see it in my "home" park would be awesome!
Aww...what a bummer! I was totally looking forward to seeing DEP when I go in MayOh well, at least WoC will be open then...
WOC isn't a summer special event, so what are they going to do to make up for the loss of DEP?
I think DLR is viewing WOC as a summer special event THIS year, especially since they are talking about 2 shows a night. Don't get me wrong, I want DEP back on DL Main Street USA just as bad as anyone, but they've been talking about taking the DEP to WDW for years. It was bound to happen.
OK, I get it. Sort of.
DEP has been running at DCA for at least five years. Things change. RDCT ran for four years until last summer.
I think its kind of funny how WDW is getting all of DLR's cast-offs. Parade of Dreams. Block Party Bash. And now DEP - since DCA cannot use it.
I wish we could send them Mulholland Madness.![]()
Sort of. I used Wikipedia to jog my memory but the run of MSEP at MK from 1999-2001 was also borrowed from DL.MSEP will not be a DL cast -off. WDW had its own version of MSEP for many years before it had SpectroMagic. It played there from 1977 to 1991, and again from 1999-2003. WDW fans are thrilled that it's coming back to WDW after such a long, long time--even if it's the "borrowed" version from DL. .
The Main Street Electrical Parade had counterparts of the same name and layout at the Magic Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort, which ran from 1977 to 1991. It was replaced by a similar parade called SpectroMagic, which ran from 1991-1999 and then reopened in 2001 and is still running. In 1992, the electrical parade from the Magic Kingdom went to Parc Disneyland at Disneyland Paris and ran there until 2003.
It was then replaced by Fantillusion, a nighttime parade from Tokyo Disneyland that had earlier replaced the Tokyo version of the Main Street Electrical Parade, which ran from 1985-1995. Tokyo Disneyland's current night parade, Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: DreamLights began in 2001 and it was a return to the style of the original with updated new music and floats.
The Main Street Electrical Parade closed in Disneyland in 1996 after a 24-year run. Light bulbs certified as having been part of the show were sold to collectors. The replacement show, Light Magic, opened in 1997 and was an immediate failure. Disney quickly cancelled Light Magic but held off in bringing back the popular Main Street Electrical Parade. However, the parade was refurbished and appeared at the Magic Kingdom in May 1999 for a limited engagement, just in time for the resort's Millennium Celebration. The parade ended its run at the Magic Kingdom on April 1, 2001 and SpectroMagic was brought back the following day.
The Main Street Electrical Parade floats were then sent back to California for the parade's return to Disneyland. These plans changed after Team Disney Anaheim saw the poor attendance figures for the spring break season at Disney's California Adventure and feared that the park would fail to attract large crowds during the crucial summer season, unless they had a big draw[citation needed]. So, on April 25, 2001, Disney announced that the popular Main Street Electrical Parade would be coming to Disney's California Adventure on July 2, 2001 in honor of the first summer of the park.
