I've only inquired once and that was within 60 days so I don't really know. Considering DLR visitors likelyhood of planning trips closer to travel I could see them deciding to do this.
It was very expensive even with a member discount!
Someone on the DL board had called and asked and was quoted right at $1,100 per night for 1 BR and $850 for studio. Don't know if this is weekday or weekend. Either way..insane, really.
I was looking for a studio when I inquired about a member cash room but all they had was a 2BR. I don't remember the exact amount but it was over $800/night.
Member cash discounts come from member points inventory. They are not available if DVC thinks the inventory will "sell out" from members using points to book.
Since VGC is small and apparently quite popular, it doesn't surprise me that there is no availability for the member cash discount. Also, there isn't a lot of history for DVC to use to predict what may or may not book up on points.
The CM probably said 60 days prior because that is when DVC typically sends unreserved points inventory over to CRO (or whatever group the public calls for reservations for Disneyland). If there is inventory to send at that point, then it makes sense to offer the member a cash discount.
