No Divers or Personalized Menus at Coral Reef in '09

I just saw this on the front page of the Dis. It didn't have a link to any other info. Does anyone know any details other than the cutting back speculation that we will all have? I'm glad we got our personalized menus for mine and DH's 40th birthdays in Feb/March of this year.

I never understood this "perk"...from a cost/value perspective, it's pretty low. I know Disney should be careful with balancing costs with what the customers want, but dollar for dollar, this one never made sense to me.

:sad1: I was really looking forward to this, sales are down so it makes sense to cutback. I would pay a small price, my daughter would really enjoy it.

1) No more divers or personalized menus.
. . . too much time for employees to manage divers and menus
. . . divers can't get their normal work done
. . . too many complaints for those who can't get a diver or menu
. . . complaints from people who are late for the ADR and didn't get their diver
. . . big costs
2) I see no reason to continue the service.
3) It is a service for which there is no payback, since eateries are full.

The "payback" on 3) is the business it generated, when people like me, made reservations, for that little extra Disney "magic". I was really looking forward to using this little perk to suprise my Groom on our Honeymoon. Now that they won't be doing it, I'm going to make my ressies elsewhere. *Sigh* not that it will be any skin off Disney's nose, since they'll just make money at the other restaurant we'll go to instead.

It seems like the economy is sucking all the Pixie Dust from Disney! :sad1:

A couple of DISers who've gotten this information directly from Disney when trying to reserve it were told it was being done for the Year(s) of a Million Dreams, and so would end when that promotion ends.

So much for going to dinner there. I was going to take my wife there for our anniversary in May just for the sign and personalized menu. I'll go elsewhere now.

Just for the sign and the diver? What about the food?

At any rate, with 2009 being "What Will You Celebrate?", Disney will be offering a large variety of options (for purchase) to celebrate one's celebration.

I am kinda glad about it, now it may be easier to get into this place!

Given the number of complaints about the food/service I've seen about Coral Reef, the thing that seemed like I was willing to still have dinner there was the sign and menu. It sounds as though are are plenty of other places I can go instead...maybe I'll replace Coral Reef with Ohana.

I would not pick 'ohana expecting great service, complaints are extremely common here regarding service and it is why we will not patronize 'ohana

just sharing :)

No offense intended, but the economy is pretty much sucking the life out of most people...Disney is still a buisness out to make money.Sad but true..If disney cuts back on these little extras, than maybe they won't have to jack the costs thru the roof.I fully expect to see more cuts in the close future.

We had a sign in 2006.

My guess is they stopped the service because of the number of complaints for something that is NOT guaranteed and is FREE.

We had a diver in 2006 and again this year in May. We also ordered a cake each time. Both cakes were very cute and tasty. :thumbsup2 I hope they bring back the service or sign/menu/cake combo.

My feelings exactly! Their menu never really appealed to me either, but I was going to make ressies, just for this little perk, and the commerative menu for a keepsake of our Honeymoon.

It looks like now that we're going to have to grease Disney's palms to get a little pixie dust. The "What are you going to Celebrate Year", is turning into "What extra money are you going to Spend to make your event special year"

I like the atmosphere of CR with the fish tank and all, but I wasn't impressed with the food. We had the diver/sign/personalized menus on our honeymoon last October and it was soooo unique and was the whole reason I went to the restaurant. I will probably not be going back to CR because the food just wasn't good enough to bring me back. I would pick Ohanas hands-down if I had to choose between the two. Just my opinion!

Well I'm glad we were able to do this in May and Tim did get to surprise me with it. I'm still going to go there on our anniversary trip though. We love it there.

I don't know what other details would be necessary. It's been announced by Coral Reef that this free service won't be continued into 2009.

If you are asking whether or not Coral Reef will do anything else for special events, you'd need to call Coral Reef directly and ask. It's not likely, unless they will participate in some of the new paid special event packages available through Disney.

I am really indifferent to them cancelling it.It seemed to cause alot of issues with people being mad that they couldn't get a diver, or they missed the diver, or they were not seated next to the tanks etc...it was a free service, if they need to cut out extra perks like this to avoid hiking prices up elsewhere so be it. Maybe they will keep it and just charge for the service.I am sure some people would pay for it( not me, but I don't care for this place anyway).

I don't doubt that - but this is what DISers are being told now, that it was being done during the YoaMD promotion and so is not available after the end of this year. Also, is it possible you visited after the end of September is 2006? YoaMD actually started September 30 that year.
